Default The Chimera

This an update on the monster. It is a 93-968 built to take the power of an aluminum LS1 engine.

THE POWERPLANT
The power plant is almost ready to fit into the hole. The bottom end is stock except for the ARP bolts in the girdle and Katech bolts on the connecting rods. ARP bolts on the 243 heads ( ZO6) ported of course. Hollow sodium filled exhaust valve stems, intake stems hollow. PAC beehive racing springs with titanium retainers. The idea is to keep the valve mass as low as possible to reduce float at high RPMs. Morel machined lifters and a stock ZO6 (2002) camshaft for drivability.

Ported LS6 oil pump and cam chain. Dry sump motor with very shallow, highly modified Moroso oil pan. Weaver 3 port drysump pump driven from A/C delete and scavenges engine oil through thermostatically controlled cooler to external tank.

LS6 intake with 80mm polished Throttle body from a de-sceened MAF through an SLP bellows.

Exhaust ( well not quite there yet) Triple Y headers through high flow SLP cats to 10-12" crossover ala Aussie supercar series ( I was going with 180 degree headers but there really isn't enough room) to a true crossover Magnaflow stainless muffler and a single outlet.

THE CHASSIS
93-968 with torsion bars at rear with M030 Koni and helper springs, Elephant Racing polybronze bushings. Front is custom chromolly lower control arms with teflon joints and Koni adjustable shocks and Porsche/Techart progressive springs. Custom front lower chassis brace and chromolly harness bar/roll bar in cabin.

BRAKES
Big Black calipers with cryogenically treated rotors in front, Rear have 968 fronts with OE rotors.

DRIVELINE
Custom adapter between between Corvette bellhousing and rebuilt 951 torque tube. Fidanza Aluminum flywheel and custom Spec2 clutch through to AOR 951-5 speed Transaxle. Stage 8 locking fasteners on axles.

INTERIOR
Stock except for Sparco Torino seats, shiny pedals, and white faced dials.

WHEELS
993 turbo twists, powdercoated semigloss black.

Timeline for completion: Who knows? I've come to realize it's cheaper therapy than going to a shrink.

Very nice, curious to know what brand lift that is and how your experience is with it?

Well..if you ever lead the Fall drive with this thing we will have to attach a ten ton trailer to the back so the rest of us can keep up with you.
Looks like an amazing project!

Thanks for the kind words everybody. Horsepower based on the claims by the various suppliers and the specific mods, well somewhere around 2000. Well perhaps a tad optimistic, but it will be somewhere around 400. More than brute power i'm hoping for smooth range between 3000 and 5000 rpm. In any case it's torque more than anything and based on conversations with guys in the States with a similar setup they got wheelspin at 100 mph in 3rd gear. Should be adequate.

The lift is Hannmecsin, got it from ADG in Mississauga. I couldn't imagine doing a project like this without it. it raises the car 4 ft.

I have two sets of rubber, Michelin Pilots and Yokohama AVID .

The single best thing i did to the garage this year was the dual 8ft florescent light box at floor level. It's great having light where it actually does some good.

Damn, the rules changed. In anticipation of the blessed event I went to the gov emissions site and find that the rules regarding Hot Rods ( yes thats what it's designated) changed Jul 2010. Not the end of the world but I need to put a few more parts on the thing.

1. Install cage and fire system.
2. Go racing.
3. Watch mouths open up as you pass GT3's on the back straight!

Yaha, wheelspin baby, all the way to terminal velocity of 158 mph. The rules change has to do with emissions, not a big deal as the engine is a very low emitter anyway. I have to fit an A.I.R system in, which is an air pump that dumps air into the exhaust manifold to help heat up the cats on startup. It only suns for 20 seconds or so and is standard fare for Vettes and F bodies. BTW I did get a really nice chromoly roll bar/harness bar made up and when we went down to Hershey last year picked up a chrome Halotron Extinguisher thats going to mount on the bar.
