Default Radar detectors in Canada

Now, I know that none of us would EVER consider buying or using a radar detector if we live in a radar-illegal province. But, hypothetically speaking of course, what radar detectors are best for a fast driving individual who wanted to keep such a unit undetectable and hidden in a vehicle, and still get good range of detection?
As well, how could such an individual, hypothetically speaking again, ever buy a radar detector, given that they are not for sale in this part of the world?
Again, I know that all of us buy P-cars because we like the practicallity of them for taking the kids to soccer and hockey practice. Never for speed, especially on public highways. So this question is purely theoretical.

much discussed in several other forums, valentine-1 gets praises as it is a radar and laser detector. Try the search function, I'm sure you'll get many hits.

Hypothetically, Zookie should look into this.

I also heard good things about the Valentine. It was the popular choice with my car buddies when I lived in Illinois. I didn't own one myself, I followed in their tracks...

V1 is excellent but if detectors are banned you might want to look at this.

V1 is great, I have one and it's nice to have the directional arrows and the range is very good. But they can be detected by the 5-0's. The Bel STi is supposed to be undetectable. Range and sensitivity may not be as good as the V1 or the Passport 9500's....

Laser detectors are just going to be the 'oh ****, I've been shot' alarm....protection against laser will be laser jammers.

Forget it in Ontario. I have a V1 and have talked to Valentine. Copes here use an Australian technology calls Predator ( as I recall) . It will pick up the V1.

There is one Beltronics unit that is undetectable.

Laser detectors are almost useless. If you get the warning you are already done. Jammers need professional installation and are illegal in both Canada and the US. You need to use them carefully for a short burst, and if you are hit from behind the brakelights will get you. ( Some dedicated folks have brakelight cutouts).

Will talk to my friend who has his Beltronics unit. Sheilded from Spectre III effectively, will confirm regarding Predator tho.

It's already saved him from lining the gubbermint pockets at least 4 times.

Laser jammers need to be on, once it gets a hit, slow down to the speed limit and turn it off to allow a reading. Laser jammers are a little tricky to install, but professional install isn't always required. As for legality, they're 'parkng sensors' so you don't damage your expensive paint.

I looked into the beltronics unit--you can buy them in Canada via B.C. and have it shipped anywhere you like. They offer a concealed unit ($1000!)--looks pretty interesting, if not cheap.
Not that I would ever consider buying one, or even go over the speed limits to begin with, of course.

In your case, I think you need all three.

I used to use a radar detector, but it kept causing more harm than good. Firstly, with instant on and laser, unless you have reflexes like the Flash, you are effed as soon as the gun hits you.

If the cop is behind you, your tail lights will go on - I've lost 2 units this way...

It's not worth using one in my opinion. They give you a false sense of security. Speed traps are easy to spot if you keep your eyes up and shield yourself behind other moving objects and look for peoples brake lights up ahead...

I have a Beltronics 945i (battery operated) that I bought in Vancouver. FYI - Beltronics HQ is located in Mississauga. Anyone can have mine for $100.. I bought it a few years ago for $550 and it's collecting dust.

I only use my detector on outings through the highways. Occasional use in city.
