I've talked to a couple coppers and they say there is no technology that is assured to defeat 'em....yada, yada. Apparently best strategy is to bury yourself in between fast cars. Works great on the QE but not much help on the open road...........

I understand that it is legal to own one but not legal to use.

I HAD the undetectable Bel unit until the OPP picked up the signal. What I didn't know was every time you turn the unit on you have to activate the unit to stealth mode.
I still have a battery powered Bel unit that I never use any more.
Like James said they give a false sense of security.

You have to know how to use them, never fully rely on it. Like anything, it's another tool that can help you keep alert about what's around you. Another set of eyes, but I consider a radar detector/laser jammer secondary tools to help a driver facilitate driving in an enthusiastic manner.

Yes, you can order them from Vancouver for a rediculously high price. I have always mail ordered mine from new york. There are lots of ads in the back of Road and Track. I bet you cvan pick up the STi from Bel for under $200.00 USD.

I was called from customs once in the past when my detector came across the border. The guy asked me if they were allowed. I told him that you can own one, you just can't use it. We both had a laugh, I paid my tax and duty and it was in my mailbox the next day.

I have a V1 but I never use it in Ontario.

I had it shipped to NY and I picked it up.

Put a pic in my album.

Just put a deposit on my P-car in November, so all I have is a pic from the seller right now--it is in storage til April so I cant take other photos til then.
BTW---Silly question--how do ya put a photo in your forum posts?

a close friend of mine uses a Bel STi in Ontario, he loves it. If u want more info, ask and I can see if I can get u the answers.

IIRC, he picked it up direct from Bel in the US a couple years ago. He paid $399US or there abouts and had it shipped to the UPS store near the Prime Mall in NF.

As far as I know, it doesn't have any emissions beyond standard background noise for any RF stuff.....

Would be interesting if it, or another detector can be used without its use being noticed by the fuzz.

They're legal in SK (where I am), AB, and BC so I have a V1 and a Bel 935. Response seems comparable for both, with more falses from the V1, but the arrows on the V1 make it my favourite.

I've always firmly believed that if I am to be subjected to RF waves, then I have the right to capture them, be it radar or sat TV.

The best thing to do is have a cheap unit on board that you can get in the US for under $50. Give that one up instead of the expensive one.

I'd get a detector just to sit in the woods and trigger the thing on and off within distance of a radar trap. It would drive them nuts. LOL

register (at no cost) with a photo sharing site (like www.photobucket.com)

you can upload your pictures there....then you can copy/paste (using "image code") directly to your message).....

can also handle small "gifs" like this:
