Is there a model year older than which this dealer inspection business doesn't apply? (For example, is it the case that all cars >10 years old can come in without certification from Porsche Canada?)

Interesting... There goes my plan to sell my 951 and get a 996.... Adding another $5K to the price tag after the duty and the taxes is just too much.

..and don't forget those N spec tires that are probably long gone ... and tend to be uber expensive.

the Canadian dealers and PCNA may require you change the cluster. In the recall letters they use to issue (mine from Jun -08) state that "If not already completed, in order to bring this vehicle into compliance with Canadian Safety Standards, the instrument cluster, and vehicle labels must be replaced with respective Canadian versions."
Canadian Tire would accept simply changing the digital display over to km/h, but I suspect the under the new system they will force you to change the cluster.

ok, update.
I did get a clearance letter from US dealer and after emailing it in, got the inspection form less than 1 hour later.
Seems PCNA policy is not yet being pushed through, but I guess could change any time now. I for one am happy not having to spend another $1200.
DRL hack and child restraints to go and I'll be done.

I just got off the phone with Porsche USA and my local dealership.
Apparently, two weeks ago Porsche changed their policy regarding issuance of recall letters required to import Porsche's into Canada.
Old Policy:
1. Call up Porsche USA with VIN for verbal confirmation of recall status
2. Buy car
3. Provide documentation to Porsche USA and receive written recall letter in 3-5 days
New Policy, as of two weeks ago:
1. Call up Porsche USA with VIN for verbal confirmation of recall status
2. Buy car
3. Import car into Canada (and pay 6.1% import tax?)
4. Take car down to local dealership for inspection
5. Inspection now costs CAD 1,250 + tax (new fee)
6. Pray the car passes all inspection points or your warranty is void (or fix/replace any non-Canadian approved parts)
7. Receive recall letter from Porsche Canada, if your car passes
So - maybe this is only applying to cars still under warranty so as to preserve factory warranty status? Right now, the RIV website has nothing about a dealer inspection. Ferrari, on the other hand, has managed to screw its customers by requiring the inspection BEFORE the recall letter can be issued.
