Battery Replacement for 03 Boxster
My 03 Boxster's battery is dead. I am looking for a replacement battery. I have reviewed mike.focke's very helpful site which lists just about everything one would want to know about replacing a Boxster's battery. The focus, however, is on batteries in the U.S. Do any Canadian owners know of batteries available here in Canada that will fit? For instance, has anybody found a Canadian Tire battery that will work? I see that CTC now has an "Eliminator Spiral Grid" battery that seems to be somewhat similar to an Optima battery, and I am wondering if one of those will fit.

Interstate is the non-OEM replacement for boxsters. That's what Mantis recommended I buy when mine died. Much cheaper than OEM, and fit right in with no problem.

Boxster and 996 are the same for battery fitment. Get a group 48 battery with a vent tube from Parts Source, Canadian Tire, Costco for less than half what the crappy Moll OE batteries run and you'll be fine...it's what I did 2 years ago with no issues. It's a bit smaller but it cranks it fine in the coldest winter days, also the battery tray has an adjustable saddle so many sizes fit.

Thanks for the suggestions. My local CTC could do nothing for me. The person I spoke with said he could not even attempt to look for a battery for me by group type. Fortunately, there is a local parts store that stocks Interstate, so I have the choice of an MTP 91 (approx. $120) and an MTP H7 (approx. $170). I am going to walk in with my old battery and decide which I like best. Thanks again.

Mark if you have a batery tender that plugs in through the lighter you may want to plug that in. that way it will save your radio codes system data etc. You could even clip one on your bettery terminals if your carefull.

Mark,
What a tool the guy at CDN Tire was! Group 48 is the size info of the battery...pretty basic info for a parts counter guy. Anyway, here's a thread in renntech.org that dealt at length with the battery choices: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=2950

I picked up and installed yesterday an Interstate MTP H7. Fit well. A little longer than the factory battery, but the next bolt hole over for the hold down worked perfectly. All electrics appear to be fine. And because its an 03, no radio codes were needed even though the car has been without a battery since November.
