Default Battery Dead...

Well i think my battery has had it... it has died on me 2-3 times before, Pfaff Re-Charged and Told me it wont last very long... 70kms and 42 Months... Anyways i was going thru some threads... Our friends in the US have scored a Duralast 48-DL from Autozone for under $80 USD... i was just wondering what are my options here, Price?

I found A/C Delco (One Year Warrenty WEAK!!) thats coming upto $170, might as well dash out $30 more and get OEM... but everyone knows OEM Battries are OEM Battties... I think the dealer wants $199 for it...

So what are my options? thanks

Now you can get one of those light wieght batteries.

If you just want a standard battery, you can go any where, just a get group 48 battery.
There also are dry cell batteries out there. I think optima is one. When I was looking at them at crappy tire I couldn't find a group 48.

OEM batteries are crap...lots of threads in the 996 forum to back it up. I picked up a group 48 at Parts Source for about $120. It's not as gianourmous as the OEM but the tray is adjustable and it bolts right in. It also has the proper vent tube. Save your dough...a battery is a battery; Porsche (actually Moll) doesn't make a better mousetrap in this case.

The disclaimer says its for racing or lite duty usage, if your car is fully loaded with accessories this battery may not be suitable unless its for saving weight for track usage. Remember that Porsche is so performance oriented that they must have had a reason to put a big heavy high capacity battery in the car in the first place.

Personally for day to day use I'd rather carry around an 30 extra pounds than having to boost my car if and when the battery runs outa juice, plus a small battery may put extra strain on the alternator.

Just my 2 cents

I agree. I experienced poor performance with a light weight battery in my TT which doesn’t have any electronic gizmos drawing power. I got it in the hopes of shedding weight. The issues with these batteries are that they have low cranking power along with very low reserve capacity which is a bad combination since Porsches suck up juice when they're sleeping. In a matter of a few days you'll find yourself looking for a boost or worse, a flat bed truck. Ask me how I know!
CTC makes a pretty decent battery, along with a warranty honored pretty much anywhere in Canada to boot.
