Yeah, that reminds me of the state trooper that took credit cards on the spot and had the slips and machine...like a friggin' taxi driver!

Yes Clive, something like that.

Now, we do have an ace up our sleeve.
If he decides to take it to court and gets a hearing date set after July, he will be in the US at College. So, we may be able to postpone it some a while. Maybe then I could get hire a paralegal and get the ticket thrown out.

We shall see....

I have a court date for March.
My plan is to try and change the date a couple of times to extend it to November. This way there will be more than 3 years between tickets.
Always open to advice though.

Do you want to extend the court date so previous tickets will come off your abstract or are you trying to prolong the court date then say it took long to trial?
If you are going for the too long to trial scenario I don't think it will work.

Does anybody know for sure how long tickets show on the abstract and secondly how far the insurance companies can look back?

All good advice. I have always used a good lawyer. The points are much more worrying than a fine. Experience has been very good with laywers.

If ,on the other hand, the wheels come off...I do own a Smart car. 20.3 seconds to 100Km/h. (my wife actually landed a speeding ticket in it!)......

That's the plan. I believe it's 3 years. One would think you could check your own abstract to make sure.

My understanding is a conviction is a conviction.
The offence on my record is "Failure to obey an official sign"
No points. I think the fine was $17. Totally bogus, but a conviction.
It happened 3 years ago this fall.
Now I potencially have 2.
I'm not worried about the points as I don't get caught very often
I can even swallow the $200 and chalk it up to stupidity.
Driving 2 sports cars could you imagine what my insurance could be?
I'd probalbly get more tickets in a Smart car because I'd be too busy whistling while I was driving and not paying attention to my speed.

Ronan,
Don't let Fantino see the pic of your dog behind the wheel of the Smart. The pup has the steely gaze of a veteran "street racer"!!

Hey Dan,
Are you looking to beat the ticket or have it reduced?
I think the only purpose in having a lawyer is so you don't have to go to court yourself.
The lawyer I talked to told me for a couple hundred bucks he'll get it reduced. They offered a reduction when I went in to plead not guilty.

not looking for reduction just make it go away. It is in whitby and was reduced by cop at side of road from 41 over to 15 so I guess I will just hope he doesn't show for second trial and will ask for disclosure.
