It's about time. If it's smaller and lighter than the current one, I'm in.

not a huge difference in form factor. The site will give you the full deets but faster web, gps, and much improved battery life are a few of the improvements.

Unfortunately I cannot comment at all on this at present. As soon as official announcements are made I will be happy to discuss it.

pricing has been announced by rogers already: it's 199 for 8gb and 299 for 16gb version however those prices are for a 3 year contract (in the US it's only 2 year).

here's the apple press release about rogers availability on july 11:
http://www.apple.com/ca/press/2008_0...rs_iphone.html

and the rogers press release about pricing:
http://micro.newswire.ca/release.cgi...5804-0&Start=0

no mention about data plan pricing, and if they will be available without contracts or at contracts with shorter terms. believe me rogers will not make the AT&T mistake and lose profitability because of this phone. expect very high prices for data plans.

If you're a relatively low-traffic email user, the iPhone might be OK for you. The touchscreen keyboard is useable, but not practical in the long run.

If you're a high-volume business email user who does an enormous amount of thumb-typing every day (as I do), the Blackberry is mandatory, accompanied by an iPod Touch to get all of the cool features of the iPhone without the phone.

I'm waiting for the Blackberry Bold, which looks like it'll be an awesome upgrade from the current offerings.

I've got the 32G iPod Touch, and it holds all of my music plus about a dozen movies. For most people, even the big version of the new iPhone (16G) won't hold all of your music, much less any significant video content.

Well, since I refuse to give the evil empire Rogers any further business (or in fact accept the "free" stuff they've offered me for bending me over in the past), count me out. Until they have a complete corporate overhaul and improve their customer service to a respectable level, I'd rather hang out at www.iHateRogers.ca than toil with an iPhone on their network!

</end rant>

rumor

http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/0...lans-revealed/

howardforums user i.Fido (purveyor of fine rumors on several occasions) seems to have let the cat out of the bag as to what Canadians are likely going to be shelling out for plans with the iPhone 3G launch on July 11. Pricing seems to be set at $199 and $299 for the 8GB and 16GB handsets as new activations or for upgrades to a qualifying 2 or 3-year plan. Yes, you'll also need to grab yourself a data and voice plan, and options include a $30 unlimited Consumer Data Plan -- it's about freakin' time -- or $45 Enterprise Data Plan. Both of these include Visual Voicemail when subscribed to a voicemail plan, though, only the Corp. plan seems to let you get at your Exchange server for push mail. Of course, all is not lost if you don't qualify for the upgrade, as the note goes on to say that "Rogers has not determined the price of the 3G device for non-qualified upgrades." so we can only hope. True to what we've already heard, activations will be done in-store, you'll only be allowed to pick up three at a time, and prepaid's a no-go. So now that those details have potentially been put to rest, tell us Canada, still getting iPhone 3G next month?
