I took the 03 S out ... not bad ... it was a tip with paddles ... I was impressed. Besides ... the 50 over is toooooooooooooooo easy to reach in the 951.

Also ... going from an older to newer is better ... less maintenance issues.

I use H&R spacers: 5mm in front and 14 mm in the rear. They come with longer bolts so there isn't any problem. Mantis did my tech inspection last year prior to my track day, and there wasn't any issues.

BTW: Porsche sells spacers too...overpriced, yes but OEM.

^ bingo.

my friend spun out at a CSCS event 2 or 3 years ago in his M3 because he was using spacers on his rims without the longer studs. with the properly lengthened wheel bolts, tehre's no problem as they will have enuff turns on them to lock in safely.

just remember to retorque them once in a while and u'll be fine.

Those intersted in having their wheels refinished

I spoke to my wheel refinisher friend about getting a group rate, which he is cool with, but unfortunately, it not as easy as quoting a standard price. There are many factors that affect the pricing. What you want to get done, what damage needs to be repaired, etc. What he suggested is that those that want to get their wheels refinished provide a picture of their wheels and a list of what they want to get done, and he will provide a quote.

My wheels are in great shape (no road rash), but the centres used to be white and some of the black paint has come off with white showing through, so I want the centres stripped and repainted black and want to get the lip polished. That will require more work than someone who just wants the lip polished.

If you want a price, send me your pics and instructions and I will pass them on to him.

FYI, this guy has done many fuchs before for PCA members. His personal experience is that fuchs are the best metal of any wheel he has ever worked with and they polish up really nicely. He said the metal is light and very dense.

Show the Clarkson one! I haven't seen it!

And what happened to that RX7? Was it a spacer issue? Man, that was just mind-boggling.

Cool ... I'll snap some pics of my phonies this weekend.

Stupid question: the wheels and tires have to come off the car for refinishing, yes?

Cut the poor guy some slack... if you've autocrossed enough, this can happen to anyone, it's not that hard to forget to torque up the wheels, especially when your friendly autocrosser buddies drop by and engross you in a conversation.

One of my closest friends, who is smart as can be, forgot to torque down one of his wheels coming back from setting the third fastest time in his class at Knox Mountain Hillclimb. The wheel started to wobble part way home and he was fortunate to only do some light damage to the fender.
