Default 997 bore scoring solution

friend has 05 997 S with bore scoring. still driveable. what is the best cost effective solution these days for someone in GTA?
is Porsche short block available and still reasonable? or any local machine shops with a good solution? is it worth it to send to US?
I feel bad for these cars

LS3. Smaller, lighter, more power. This conversion is becoming increasingly popular.

Local Honda engine swap

or LS V8 swap are 2 relatively inexpensive solutions. Porsche engine will run about $40K I think.

not sure about the Short Block availability check the dealer via the VIN - i heard they were sold out long time ago - if its still available 100% go this route

If you need a shop to rebuild A to Z then there is Dirk @ Mantis he's been doing a lot of those
There is also Chariots of Simcoe in Orangeville, i have not used him myself but seen his work and he is a active member of PTN he posts his work often on the PTN Facebook

but yes 30-40k for the Rebuild like @lowbee mentioned about

Someone I know had the engine rebuilt, displacement increased to 3.9L at TSH Auto in North York. Cost about $18K. Seems happy with results.

Sorry to hear another 997 with bore scoring in Canada. I have seen already 5 997'S with bore scoring issues and there is also a wait time for the parts too for engine rebuild. Definitely very expensive to rebuild as it cost more than half the value of the car. Hope all goes well with your friend and keep us posted.

Went through this 5 yrs ago with my 2006. Sent the block to the US and had the strip and rebuild done here - very expensive, was over $40k at the end of the day. Had it bored to 4L. New engine at the time was $35k. If you can get it done for $18k thats a steal but not sure how they can do it for that price these days and would want a deep dive on what exactly is being done

Does he really want to spend $40k on a 20 yr old car? Besides it takes months ie at least 6 as I recall to get it done.

Drive it till it dies and then drop in the LS or sell t as a roller. Because you wont see a cent of that $40k investment back in resale

I am not sure they are "inexpensive". I have seen posts saying LS engine swaps are near $30k.

hartech.org/porsche-engine-rebuilds/rebuild-prices

Hartech is no-where near those prices, but you have to ship it to the UK. Alpine in Calgary is Hartech's Canadian partner (distributor?). Give them a call as well.

It's hard to know what is BS these days, but I heard the chance of an engine catching fire increases greatly with bore scoring.

CPE does a hight quality LS swap for $40k. I’m a purist and don’t love anything about the concept but Tyler is a good guy and I buy all of his Porsche cores to help keep our customer’s rebuild costs down.

A Hartech 4.1L is an endurance racing class engine that is built to be equally enjoyable for street or track use.
