As an aside, does anyone here still remember the uproar when the City of Toronto wanted to purchase a helicopter for police enforcement several years ago? I'm not hearing the same faux outrage over this announcement. How times have changed.
yeah chopper sounds cool focus should be on choking the port without slowing down legit cargo.

to be fair, crime has changed. Borrowing Durhams chopper isn’t truly helpful.

On the other side of the issue there is a guy on trial right now for running over an undercover cop. He's a young brown guy, and his kids and wife were in the car. The wife was 8 1/2 months pregnant. He thought he was being hijacked

The cops are lying in this case. They said he ran head on into the cop, and he went on the hood of the car. This is patently a lie. There were no marks or dents on the front of they guys car. If you press hard the hood of your car with your hand you will leave a dent.

I once dented the fender of my 718 by leaning against it !!! The dent guy in mississauga had to take it out.

Was quite shocked to see that recovery this morning. I'm just trying to understand the hierarchy. Local police have no jurisdiction into the ports or rail yards. With CBSA now involved they can go in as needed? Would this apply to the railyards ie: Concord.

This is the only way to stop this (or at least slow it down). I used to work beside one of these operations. Every morning the lot was filled with new cars (many still with the dealership papers still in the car). They would be driven inside the industrial unit and loaded onto containers…all day long. One day, the place is packed with Police. They spoke to the adjacent businesses to fill them in on what was happening. It was one of three locations busted. 3 days later, they were back in business. One officer said that they all made bail. They operated for 3 more years at that location. As the pandemic went on their supply of cars must have dried up. Fewer and fewer new cars were showing up and, ironically, they started putting yellow wheel clamps on them when left outside overnight. One day, they were gone…

Definitely nice to see some cars being recovered but it's still a fraction of what's actually getting stolen.. I was shocked to see the number referenced for just Mississauga and Brampton in the last 3 months.. Wonder what the number is for all of GTA..

Ports are Federal. CBSA because it involves import/export. But all agencies partner on such things all the time. Crime doesn't have boundaries nor does policing in principle. How well they work together is another piece.

While it's awesome news and I hope they keep up the pressure. It also speaks to the massive security/audit hole that was in our export system.

It's incredible, the criminals are so well organized and the feds have to go through hoops to catch them...

Our laws are not keeping up with the crimes at all.
