I would rather do a private deal in the US than deal with these Canadian dealers. They are absolutely terrible.

I bought in the US once, but from a dealer, so certain level of comfort there and they were great in the entire process.

Has anybody used a US Escrow service? Seems like a reasonable way to provide additional assurance in a private transaction.

I wonder if he just changed his mind. I have to confess to doing it 45 years ago when I was rounding up cash with the now ex-wife for my first house. Buyer there with cash and I just couldn't do it. Wife long gone. Still have the Z.

Nope...he just didn't want to share his address for security reasons. He felt that it was unnecessary. He wrote, "Am I being overly careful in these crazy times, I don't think so".

wow that's rather upsetting after putting in so much work.

Paranoid is an understatement. Who in their right mind is going to wire that amount of money without knowing the full details of who it is going too? I think you dodged a bullet.

Also, he may have been worried about paying capital gains on the sale due to the new IRS reporting.

I think you have to provide the sellers EIN# to customs on a private sale....AFAIK

The EIN replaced the use of their SIN due to privacy concerns. It is used to make entries into the automated export system that tracks items leaving the country to prevent supporting terrorist organizations. The IRS issues the EIN, but does not use it in this instance for taxes (although they could if they wanted to). Businesses already have an EIN, so they have to provide that also.

Ya, I have heard this is causing Mericans to not want to sell to us Canucks as they are paranoid about big brother. Mix that with a hearty helping of ignorance.

Are they worried about the IRS? If people are making money on cars, they need to tell me how.....

Yes, that is what I have heard from a couple of US car buddies. The making money part never works unless it's a really rare car, paint to sample, etc.

Email from the owner of the other cab that I liked that wouldn’t allow a ppi…”Should you still be interested, please reply”. This should be interesting 😉
