I love K-swaps! Not sure I love the idea of swapping out a flat 6... but to each their own.

Lots of 996 cabs blown up out there. Would be a fun project. (If I didn't have a wife lol)

The only other engine I really wonder about is the Cadillac CT-6 engine..
same as a LS on the rear and 2 cylinders shorter... Twin turbo..
Used they are about $8K Just gets me thinking,, a Caymen body would rock it well..

subbed! this sounds fantastic. I'd consider this a good option for rolling chassis, would've had second thoughts on using a running and driving 911.

The 4 cylinder VW TDIs bolt right up to the 996 transmission. Now THAT would be some swap!

A rolling chassis would be great, but 997 rolling chassis' are still pretty few and far between from what ive seen.

I actually think this swap could be good option for all the aging 996 cars out there

As for me and this car, since its not a roller and the engine is perfectly good. I can technically just sell the 3.8 engine and could possibly get close to breaking even on this project

that's pretty interesting that they share the same bolt pattern

That CT6 engine could be a good option as well - If it shares the same transmission bolt pattern as an LS you could utilize a lot of the already available LS to Porsche swap parts

Though, $8K for the used engine is a pretty steep starting point for the swap considering there is a significant cost for all the other parts for the swap

I came to this conclusion after reading others using, other version of VW engines that bolt up to the Porsche gearbox. These VW engines have transmissions that bolt up to the TDIs so logically the TDI should bolt up to the Porsche transmission too. BUT please take this as a non first hand experience info.

I think the engine would be the easy part of this swap.

Yea but the thing is over 400HP stock, prob 650+ with a good tune..
The 2014 silverado 4.3 is 340HP stock and all Aluminum, another potential option for < $3000

On paper it definitely sounds like a good option.

I had briefly considered a sort of similar engine - The Ford Ecoboost 3.5L V6. They are plentiful, fairly inexpensive, proven to make pretty decent power, with the benefit of lots of aftermarket support

Unfortunately, they dont have the best track record for reliability, but i suspect thats partly due to maintenance and long oil change intervals

I have a 1999 996/ Ls6 and think you made a good engine choice from a drivability standpoint .The k24 rpm range matches the Porsche gearing much better .
