i would say it depends on the car and intended use. if its a 911 that you are likely not going to drive in winter or have an extra set of wheels with snows on anyway i wouldnt bother.

But if you are gonna hammer around the streets of quebec in an suv all winter it may be worth it with all the constant construction there.

I wouldn't though.

Brother in law got the $7k package on his car. Paint, windshield wheels and tires.
If your running snow tires and wheels. Those are not covered. So really you are protecting tires for half a year.
He sold his car in 18 months. never used it, lost all his money.
I told him, he was a fool, at the time.

My X5 was previously leased and had tire insurance.
I don't think the previous owner was successful with any of her claims.
They patched a run flat once. While they would never do that for me.
Each rim has a serial/vin number on the inside bead.

Crazy expensive. I have hit every pot hole in Toronto and most in the US and never bent a rim (or had a flat). If i get a flat then thats why I have CAA (and that goop crap in case i am really pooped). You hear stories of guys bending rims but the OEM rims are tough as **** and Iv never seen it myself

Save your money. In the very unlikely event you actually bend a rim then just buck up. As others have said they aint doing it to you as a favour!

I’ve resurface 4 rims in as many years (@#$% happens, and wife happens lol).

I don’t know, I have experiences of replacing tires over several years due to nails etc. It’s paid for and now I don’t worry about it for 4 years. Road rash dealt with..... rims in the unlikely event I need it..... That and front end wrap are the two only after sales offerings I took.
Resurfacing rims at a good place is like $150 each....you must have replaced a LOT of tires to hit $2700

Some of these aftermarket crap warranties do have a refund clause. It might not be too late to consider

I agree 100%. Drove all winter and hit some monsters. Check my tire pressures weekly. I think most people are lazy and drive with underinflated tires which lead to rim damage

I had it with last AMG car and it cost 1750 from the dealership. What was good is it covered aftermarket wheels so I claimed two winter wheels without any problems.

Now, I bought my 911 used and didn’t know that we could buy this sort of insurance privately.

Who sells that?

I don't buy it. I think I've had a nail/screw ruin a tire once in the last 10 years, speaking only of DDs. 5 DDs in that time. Wheel rash, sure I've had some minor incidents. Didn't bother to repair those as the cars go back with no charges for it.

If I had to pay say $2500 x 5 for insurance that is $12,500. I think I've saved enough to buy a couple tires and a wheel if need be on my current DD and still come out ahead. If I go harm free for the next 2.5 years I'm even further ahead.

Sure it's piece of mind for the worst case scenario but I'd say on average poor value.

I’m getting a set of %100 custom made forged wheels (not that HRE crap) so a little insurance would be nice.

As i said, on our awful Quebec roads, I’ve claimed two bent wheels on it and it paid for itself on the first claim.

If the roads are that bad then why are you running a rim and tire combo that bends so easily?

I don’t know how easily they will bend. It will be my first set.

So far, the Porsche OEM wheels have survived some terrain beyond my expectations.

My point is that insurance is for anything that’s unpredictable.
