Default Tire and rim insurance worth it?

Debating to get or not Tire insurance for my new car. The roads here are terrible so that's what prompted this thought. I stopped by the dealer and they quoted me about 3200 for 5 years. I'm assuming this is before taxes. Anyone has experience with this? I drive about 5000km per year in the summer only. Thanks

Your dealer is making an obscene amount of money on that product markup. Somewhere in the range of probably $900 to $1200. I would pass and self insure.

Also depends on who the provider is that processes and approves the claim some are reputable while others are an absolute joke and a nightmare to deal with.

if you need a police report, why wouldn't regular cover your wheels? $3200 you could buy an extra set of wheels ...

Generally cheaper in the long run to self insure anything except where there may be legal liability or catastrophic loss... so you need car and house insurance.

Interesting topic as i was always in pro-warranty when i purchase mercedes. Furst class protection warranty which covers windsheild, tires and PDR for three years costs a little over $2000 and i usually purchase them.

With little over two year mark on my family suv, ive replaced 3 brand new tires, 4 dents and a windsheild. I think it was well worth it.

Since it is pretty much drop off at the dealer and they don’t question it nor police report required.

Now that is just mercedes. Never had any encounter nor purchased any of the wsrranty for my cars tho.

Porsche wouldn’t be selling it if it wasn’t a profit centre for them. Skip it.

We bought it and used it within the first couple months. Got a flat tire and they gave us a new tire, no charge. I know the warranty is more than a tire but I think these things are more piece of mind than anything. My dad just got it in his new Macan too, $1900, that is basically the cost of 1 rim lol.

I can live with it at 2k but at over 3k + tax which brings it close to 4k, I start to find it expensive.

I bought it. $2700 negotiated tax in 4yrs. No police report needed. Any problem, get it to dealer. Nail in tire, fully replaced (not repaired). Center lock wheel.... $4k to replace. But what got me over the peace of mind (which is the primary reason, as I’ve lost rims before on Toronto roads), is the 8 X wheel resurfacing I get. I’ve resurface 4 rims in as many years (@#$% happens, and wife happens lol).

I don’t know, I have experiences of replacing tires over several years due to nails etc. It’s paid for and now I don’t worry about it for 4 years. Road rash dealt with..... rims in the unlikely event I need it..... That and front end wrap are the two only after sales offerings I took.
