Brake Pads for HPDE
#61
An okay in between brake pad is the ferodo ds2500. I drive in the advanced/instructor group and while they don't last as long as a true track pad, I never lost confidence in them. Actually I still have them in the rear and the ds111 up front. The rears have lasted close to 6-7 plus days.

My wife disagrees with Pagid black RS14 on the road. The first time I returned from the track after installing them, she was outside with the dog to witness the screech and merely said "I assume you're changing those back to the standard ones after the weekend".
YMMV - these are my experiences and I continue to keep my wife happy. Happy wife, happy DEs.

The rear pads are completely different than the GT3. The 991S and GTS front caliper is actually the same as the GT3 but because of the hats design you cannot run the GT3 pad. However if you go to Giro Disc rotors in the front you can run the GT3 pads. Have several 991S and GTS running this setup and they are very happy with the improved braking.

The calipers are very different.
THe good news is Ferodo is coming out with the pads for both the front and rear of the 991S in both DS1.11 and DS2500. You will not be stuck with no option but Pagid. I hope to have them in stock by September 15.

If you run Giro Disc rear rotors you would not be able to run the GT3 rear pads.

but their name sounds ITalian and the auto pads are made in Italy so most
(including myself) thought they were an ITalian company. Further confusion is the founder, Herbert Ferood, somehow had his name changed to Ferodo along the way. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferodo
Ferodo was the brake provider to Formula One for years. During the late 80s
when I first got involved with POrsche Ferodo was very much a player. During the 1990s Ferodo got caught up in the asbestos lawsuits and went ba, nkrupt....Federal Mogul, a Detroit parts conglomerate purchased them.
Ferodo is back in every way. Of hundreds of PFC and Pagid converts only one has gone back to their former pad. THis tell me a lot. Most GT4 and 991 GT3 track guys are using Ferodo DS1.1
