Do you race in the rain?

WGI this year was hard rain. Machul got by me at the start and I drove my *** off chasing him. At the pit stop I was so pissed I still hadn't caught him... turns out a pro did the first stint.
I don't mind the rain so much. Not terribly worried about the car, going pretty slow.

PCA CR 2014 at Sebring, qualifying was in the rain. Nothing like having on board computers to assist in the rain.
Got to start the cup race on outside pole in front of 70 cup cars - in my street car!!! That lasted until t1 when front rotor cracked in half. Oh well, not like I was going to be able to hang on to that position. lol
Here is the start of the race. Blackie is a 2010 GT3 I bought new off the Porsche dealer lot.

Not a racer, but I really enjoy DEs in the rain. I learn a lot by being forced to try different lines to find grip, and things only get hairy if visibility starts to degrade. The track I run (MSRC) has a really polished surface in the normal dry lines, so my key is to look for visible texture on the surface and do my application of force in those areas.

Nice!
I had a spin like that on a dry weekend, but it had rained all week and cars that left the asphalt needed tows to get out. *** end came around at the apex of T2, saw the T2 flag station for a second time before managing to keep it on the track pointed in the right direction. As the car righted itself I was looking right at the T3 flag station. Manning T3 was a friend of mine and he threw up the American Football "It's good!" sign. Fond memory .

I love racing in the rain. You just need decent tires to prevent aquaplaning if its really rainning. I've even like racing on a slightly wet surface with slicks.
Great experience. Forces you to concentrate harder and be more conscious about what the car is doing and wet weight trnasfer /each corner grip level (can't treat throttle or brakes as binary switches as some do in the Dry).
You just have to be aware that things happen faster but you need quick abut really smooth inputs and it takes longer for the car to correct (more space). Other than that is all the same, and is event cheaper! (less wear and tear on the car, brakes and tires... if you DONT crash!)

I remember watching that race and just yelling over and over with each impact. That was scary to watch.

^^Excellent example of why you never unbuckle or get out until the marshall tells you everything is okay. Unless of course... fire... god help you if the car is on fire...

How much does this cost (as % of agreed value)? My feeling is that crash/damage risk in racing (not to speak in the rain) is so high that self-insuring (by driving a car that you could afford to leave at the track) is pretty much the only way to go.
