Question Boycott Russian Grand Prix?

I fully expect that the US/European sponsors of F1 teams will soon demand a boycott of the Russian GP because of Russia's theft of Crimea from Ukraine.
Remember the Bahrain's GP cancellation?

Why hasn't there been more on this in the racing news media or in the mainstream news?

Thanks for your consideration...

Bernie likes money a lot. He'd be cool running in North Korea too, just cannot find 100,000 healthy camp inmates to fill the stands.

You're right, will be interesting to see what the teams do. Guess it will largely depend on whether this escalates further or not.

Best,

Matt

It would be a shame.

It's already a shame for Ukraine...

Canceling the GP would have more $ impact on Russia and its PR image than anything that's been talked about so far. This would be an elegant strike without any troops on the ground!

Bahrain was cancelled due to high risks of terrorism, IIRC.

Cancelling or boycotting a GP for political reasons such as this seems...small...petty.

I can only see it canceled if international sanctions went much further than current levels. And then the teams will not have a choice once governments get involved. Based on the current situation I think there is a 20-25% chance of that happening by the Fall.

Cannot see it happening. F1 is a business and Bernie wants that US$25 million. That said, I also cannot see many tourists going there. The TV cameras will just avoid showing the empty stands as they did with the Korean GP.
