Andy, they are likely going to run the same course at Road America that they ran last year.

Looking at the website more closely, it looks like this is really a 3-day event that is inspection and car show the first day, autocross the second day, and driving on the road course the third day. And, for the road course portion, it looks like there are both wheel-to-wheel and time trial options.
It's a neat idea, and probably a better choice for TV because it can appeal to a wider demographic. When you get into the PCA racing, or even ChumpCar racing, there is a dedication (and cost) level that starts to exclude more people - making those types of racing less "relatable" to the average Joe.

I've seen these shows over the past few years. The focus is more about the cars and the builds than the racers or an existing racing org. The sponsorships revolve around the equipment/part/tires used in the builds. Not an easy equation to start messing with.
It would be fun to have a chump car or lemons race but if all the sponsorship and money put into USCR, WC etc doesn't pencil for airtime it would be a non starter. We need a grass roots fan based broadcaster, you need speedvision.

Van, they are three-day events, to ensure all participants get ample time behind the wheel and plenty the production crew gets enough footage for TV and time for driver interviews. There are run groups for drivers with advanced experience, who are allowed to pass each other, but they are competing for time and not racing against each other for position. There are also run groups that do not allow passing anywhere on the course, for drivers who are less-experienced or just don't want to have other cars around them when they are running on the course.
This will be the seventh year of the Optima Ultimate Street Car Invitational, but the first year for a nationwide point series of qualifying events leading up to the OUSCI. In the past, invitations have come from a mix of OUSCI-specific qualifying events, American Street Car Series events, open road races and other events.
