Default DE Snow

This winter weather in Northeast Ohio is unrelenting! I'm sick of it! I'm going to a DE weekend at Mid-Ohio first weekend in April (1 month away) with the 993 and there's no end in sight to winter, snow, below freezing, slush, and salty roads. I'm fully expecting snow on the track. LOL.

Hopefully the "In like a Lion, out like a Lamb" will hold true for March........but I'm not counting on it.

Cheers.

We had a pretty good snow storm one weekend at Mosport last April. Low visibility and everything.

Laps got a lot slower.

Yep I'm in downtown Chicago and it's snowing pretty heavily at the moment. March 3rd. Ugh. Hate hate hate it.

Heading down to Sebring for the 12H - quick day trip with a few friends - can't wait. It better be warm down there.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I have been to Mid O several times in early April when it snowed/sleeted. I stopped going and our region bailed on the date eventually.

Headed down to VIR for PCA Zone 2 March 14-16. Hoping it is all clear and a little warmer by then.
ProCoach will you be there that weekend?

I attend that one every year--more often than not it's cold (30s) and, as others have said, definitely could snow as it has in the past.

One of the scariest drives I've ever had was driving home to Buffalo from an April event there years ago--what is normally a 4-hour drive turned into a 7-hour odyssey on my bald track tires.....

Jeez, Gary - I always took you for a prudent guy.
That does not sound like fun.
I used to go to the track as soon as the season opened - like end of March at Lime Rock. Now its more like early May through mid-October.
Of course, even that can't save you - I was hauling up to Mosport end of September a few years back. North of Syracuse it started to snow. IN SEPTEMBER And I love snow and skiing, but not during track season.
Actually took me a few moments to get that it was snow; my mind was so far away from snow season that it just wasn't thinking along those lines.

I hadn't done an April day at Mid Ohio in over 5 years. After many miserable weather experiences I swore I'd never do it again.

Last year with them adding pro dates in the middle of summer all of the club dates got moved earlier in the year and you almost had to go in April last year if you wanted an early date. Reluctantly I signed up and sure enough it was completely miserable. Friday was cold and rainy and 30's the whole time. Saturday it snowed during lunch...have video somewhere from my student's car we decided to not even go out. Sunday was just OK but still pretty punishing with the winds.

Sadly same scenario this year. Saw the early PCA and NASA dates and said no way...hedging my bets with the MOR date the last weekend in April hoping for the best possible weather.

Back when I was still racing (motorcycles)... 2003. Season opener, first weekend in April, NW of Chicago. It snowed. I cut extra grooves in my rains just to get SOME heat in the tires. I remember going through T6 at Blackhawk with my knee on the ground watching the snow blow across the track.

Later that weekend I fell down and completely obliterated my shoulder. 2 months off of work + lots of reconstructive surgery and a couple cool x-rays later (with lots of titanium in my shoulder) and now I stay off of racetracks if the snow is flying.

I once ran a DE at High Plains in Colorado in October on Nokian snow tires. About 16 seconds off normal pace. Not recommended but it can be done. I think I hold the track record for fastest lap on snow tires...

How much time per lap...just a rough estimate...do tire chains add?

And will they help me win my DE?

Also, do they create oversteer or understeer?
