We should spend a little time together, Rick! You're in good hands with Spencer, for sure!

Both cars has a nice ring to it.
If you don't need your trailer, do you drive down or fly?
Where do you stay? I haven't been for 5 or so years. At the track would be nice.
If I don't trailer I could take the Mini or fly and get a rental. Would be nice not to trailer.

Irene and I are arriving on different flights to Raleigh that Monday night around 10PM. You're welcome to hitch a ride from the airport then if you decide to fly. We will be heading back to the airport on Thursday early AM.
We stay on site at VIR. When Irene is with me I rent one of the villas. When I'm alone I stay at the Lodge. All of the on site lodging is reasonably priced and nice. The convenience of staying at the track is great, particularly if you're prone to having more beer than you should.

Based on data collected over the last three days there, I would dispute that very much.
The fastest guys gain a little, the slower guys gain more.
The surface is terrific!

What is very good is the consistency and grip level of the new surface. What is not so good is that the missing verge lines make it difficult to see the track edge until you're on it, which will be fixed in the months ahead.
The grip level increases comfort and confidence, hence commitment. That results in speed and decreased lap times.
Increases now possible in vMin at T3, T4 and Oak Tree (and for those executing particularly well at T1), result in better corner exit and quicker segment times on the subsequent straights.

I don't think either is a solid indicator at this point as the track does not have sufficient rubber on it. There is a video of a C7 driving around there and the guys tires are squealing like pigs constantly. Except they are R6's.
By fall, sufficient rubber should be down given VIR's busy schedule. The first NASA race is next weekend, that should start to give some detail from a large sample number of VIR regulars/competitors. I'm thinking about shooting up there myself.

The tire noise is more of a function of the chemical mix used to bond the aggregate in the pavement interacting with tire rubber compound. There were tires that made noise and tires that did not.

Attending Peter's track walk on Wednesday afternoon was worth a few seconds! FWIW I took a solid two seconds off my previous best lap time on Thursday. No tire squeal, and somewhere around 40 degree ambient temperature.
