Run groups for Sebring PCA Club Race
#3
Well, the race registration opens December 9 and the DE registration opens December 16. Maybe they are going to cut back on DE run groups and have more race groups if enough sign up quickly? Wishful thinking? If my theory is correct, they should publicize that to make sure all racers take the necessary steps to avoid a wait list or not making it into the event.

Sebring is a very profitable race.
Watkins Glen has four sprint race groups.
Why does Sebring not have four run groups?
Sebring is a great event, and I enjoy going.
Fantastic track.
It defenitely would be safer and more enjoyable for the racers, if there were four sprint race groups.

This is Club Racing not For Profit like NASA. They will sell out. Is that not enough revenue to support the event? How much is enough when the quality of a Club Race is diminished due to the desire to turn a larger profit. If they don't pay for the event then I get the big run group and extra DE groups, but otherwise the quality of the event should be priority number 1.

This is the same debate we had last year when people were pushing for a Cup car only run group at Sebring. And then we had the debate again about the COTA club race. Except at COTA, everyone thought it was a first and last opportunity to drive the track.
It just really depends on the region's priorities. Should we have 2 DE groups at the big, sold out PCA races?

I'm not involved with the admin of this event, so I not sure how the proceeds are split up..
But I know it take 2 regions + PCA national RC to run it. (also not sure if everyone picks up their expenses or there is some reimbursement)
Personally, I don't think its a great event for DE's. (too much $ for too little track time)
- Although I think there was (is ?) a DE night session. -which would be pretty cool.
But, back to the question.
if racers needed to cover the lost revenue, would they kick in say an extra $200, or, just pass on the event...
That is the question the organizers would want to know...

Last year was my first year doing Sebring. Our class (G) ended up mid pack for each race. I ended up mostly against Caymans and 996's. It was clean racing overall but the car #'s per group were very concerning. The good part is that our call didn't get stuck onto the GT class where we end up slowest class in the group, at least I don't think that's what happened.
Im planning to be there again as I live 2.5 hrs away now but we will have to see how the Rolex 24 goes the weekend before.
