Brings up my favorite driver swap story....


Denny Long driving the Greenwood Corvette in IMSA at Daytona one year.

It was a dual event with NASCAR that year...

Richard Petty walks up and says...
" I sure would like to drive that car of yours..."

Denny" we'll I'd like to take a turn at yours also "

The King" well let's swap cars in the next practice..."

Denny" man that would be great, but I don't think they would allow that(different sanctioning bodies)"

King " aw heck we don't need to ask, let's just swap helmets and noone will ever know"

They go out. Denny is all over the place in the NASCAR car running the oval... Next session the king is broady/drifting the crap out of the vette all over the road course.

Fellow competitors come up to each after each session saying something to the effect of " you scared the heck out of us what the heck were you doing... Til they get together and pull off their helmets laughing their tails off!

I think Hurley Haywood et all used to do that all the time back in the day, staying in the car like 8 hours straight in one of the Daytona 24's, or something like that!

 

The difference is, Enduro warm ups do not set the grid.

 

You're right. My point was that these are the only times a coach would be allowed behind the wheel during race sessions.

 

Back in the early days of Club Racing I was the trackchair for the Chicago Region Road America- TRAC-event. We had a guy pay a pro to qualify his car, when I found out I had him sit out the race.

 

Understandable as prize money in pca is so high

 

Guess your definitely coming ... per CR email, 4 sprint groups and 3 enduro groups!
