need some help with AIM MXL
i bought a racecar with an AIM MXL unit. It worked well for the previous owner . i downloaded Racestudio . every time i connect the cord to the MXL i get an error message that says RS cant communicate with the MXL . on the AIM website there is a download for a usb driver. i figured it couldnt hurt so i downloaded it . i then did a number of things like reboot etc , i finally got it to work .
i cam back the next day and i had the problem all over again.
i tried a different computer . downloaded RS. still cant get it to communicate with the MXL
does any body have an idea as to how to fix this or what the problem may be
thank you

AIM has excellent product support. Not sure where you are located, whether in the US or elsewhere but I PM'd you the contact info of Roger Caddell who runs their training seminars. He was extremely helpful to me.
There isn't enough info in your post to trouble shoot your problem.

AIM had issues with a recent release not recognizing the dash or anything else. They have a new release issued Nov 6, 2013. Try that one, and see if it works better. I just had the same issue. I have not had a chance to see if it is the cure.

i actually just finished watching the roger caddell webinar that he gave to the mazda club. it was great . i will contact him
i switched over from motec adl2. the aim seems like it would be great ,if i can only get it to work

The software is the same regardless of which site you get it from provided the version is the same. If you did the usb drivers and software without resolve, give the 800 support line a call Monday. They are great.
One other thing is to hookup before powering up the dash. Sometimes this helps but its not really a solution.

I've had issues with the download cable on a number of occasions. They get pulled out of the dash by the cable not the connector and a wire breaks. You can take the connector apart and check. I have the wiring schematic if you e-mail me at jandsaustin1 at verizon.net. I can also send you a new download cable if you need one.

Download cable
Here is what I've done on my car and a few others. AIM has a USB download adapter that uses a regular USB printer cable. These hold up much better and if you lose it, Wal-mart has them for under $20. The AIM download cable is $65, this adapter is $55 and comes with a USB cable. You will need to have the full harness with your dash (vs. a minimal CAN harness) and it plugs into the pigtail marked "USB".
