Just throwing this out there, if you still want a DIY route for much less than Maaco, and don't mind doing it again in a few years.

Sorry for the large images (gotta run in a min).

I went from this:

To this:

All for $125 or so. More details here: http://www.cryogenicsmedia.com/Porsche/inst14.html

I pulled the front end off of my car and am going to repaint it. I'm going to try the black plastidip, if I don't like it, off it comes. Video below is with a cheap wall sprayer, but there are many vids of cars being canned.

I can't believe that's a roller job, genikz! Looks fine from here, but I don't think I could pull that off.
I'm reading the PlastiDip forums right now, leaning that way. I've done lots of wheels with it, right out the can, and it's really easy and effective. And reversible!

Come on now Gary, that's just your way of saying that the 944 is easy to drive fast and that yours is 'harder' Ok, a good driver can drive either especially if it's a winner

There, now you can't prove I ever really said any of this, so don't try..
Dayum...can we expect this post to self destruct before the general public see it Gary.

ps Frank, may I ask how much the guy quoted you to do the spray and I assume this is after you've prepped it too, yes? Feel free to pm it or whatever you like.

Local body shop owned by my son's baseball coach (so I know him) told me to figure around $2K, as materials have risen sharply. Also told me that he doesn't normally do this sort of thing, which left me miffed.
Maaco told me, admittedly over the phone with no idea what he was looking at, to figure $900-1200, and not to go too crazy with the prep has he'll probably go over it anyway.
Presently, I'm touching base with a few vocational schools, but not much interest. One says they don't do full paint jobs anymore, another says the liability is prohibitive and a kid I know who recently graduated told me to be very careful because the kids are very disrespectful to the mules that roll in and they take a lot of abuse.
So, last night I was checking out dipyourcar and am considering a full dip, self-performed, with a Wagner power painter.
Sure wish it wasn't so cold so I could get on with this already!
My fiberglass hood and rear bumper was delivered yesterday....

Really? Is this stuff no good? You said that about my wheels too, and the stuff works great.
Am I missing something?

$2K for a 2 part professional paint job, and that included doing a final go-over of your bodywork? That's a GIFT!

Dude, just Maaco it for that price. Buy some vinyl to spruce it up, it's not a garage queen.

I'd have to agree with Gary. You couldn't get someone to do it that cheap down here if you were holding their family to ransom. Was that just for the outside or complete? If it's for in and out, run, don't walk and get it done. Complete spray on my car was over $6k (cash) and it wasn't a show car job. Sure, it's not a garage queen but you still want it to look nice and when it's time to move it on you will attract a better price and purchaser.

Gary , I thought you were on my side

Just wait till you slip on one of his vinyl banana peels that are coming off his car

Frank use this stuff and you can use the car as a boat when you are not racing
