Removing China Beach makes sense, but changing Madness is, well, madness.

All they need to do is pave over China Beach, creating a safe runoff area where you can get going again after going off. It should be exactly like the outside of Turn One at Watkins Glen.

^^Took the words out of my mouth. Pave it like the runoffs at the glen.

Removing Madness for the benefit of an occasional nascar race would certainly defeat the "point" of this track. I drive 12 hours to Lexington because of the constant high speed, constant turning, elevation and camber changes on the back half of the track. Hope it's just a rumour.

The Nascar race is scheduled for Aug 17, 2013.... that's the weekend PCA raced at MO in 2012. I guess we lost our weekend.....

Wonder if they'll run the event in conjunction with a DE?

Wouldn't it make more sense to make a "Madness bypass" like Road America did with the Kink? Connect turn 7 to 9 just for NASCAR?

Just thinking out loud.....

They could make it banked....

Connect 8 to 12? Nascar cut off like the glen.

I assume MORPCA was disapointed with losing the date after a sucessfull 2012 race.

I'm hoping they can get a weekend 1-2 weeks earlier. That would put the race right in the middle of the gap between Mosport in early July and NJMP/Rd Amer in Aug/Sep.

Last year I skipped my local race at NJMP and went to MO instead. A 1 week gap between races is too short a time and *life* gets in the way.

+1

Personally for me, the Mid Ohio race would be perfect either the 1st or 2nd weekend in August (rather than the 3rd). This would position the race very nicely between Putnam and Road America.

And paving the runoff at Turn 1, the Keyhole, and China Beach would be nice.

Hopefully there is a huge fight in the pits after the race.

Only issue with a Nationwide race at MO- those cars will tear up the racing surface- and apart from the dip on the right hander right after the pit entry it's really smooth and nice right now. As a karter who races the big tracks I get to see the tracks up close and personal...

Fact of life when the big dogs run--earlier this year they had to close WGI (and cancel a bunch of scheduled events in the process) to fix the mess that the Rolex cars made....

Jim and North Coast - the new track manager told me over a year ago that they were looking at changes along those lines (he had just moved into my neighborhood, chatting while the dogs got aquainted). If I have it right, he came from Chicagoland raceway after managing Watkin's Glen. He was there when thay paved turn one, and mentioned they were looking at something to eliminate long yellows and cars losing multiple laps.
