Default Entry level racing . ...not spec Miata

Hello;

I used to race motorcycles and have done a couple of few track days in my 997s.
I'm exploring the idea of a dedicated race car, not really interested in spec Miata.
I'm looking to get into a class where there are plenty of comparable cars racing (which seems to exclude Spec Boxster in the SE) and just wanted to see if anyone had any advice or guidance.
I'm a little confused with the different sanctioning bodies (SCCA), plus what PCA has to offer.
I'm in Charleston SC, so Roebling road, Barber, VIR, Road Atalanta and CMP are all in range.
Not looking to break the bank on this, maybe a 50k budget to buy, would like it to be less if possible.

thanks

Go get an E Stock 911 ready to race and have fun.

You'll get plenty of great racing, learn a bunch about these great cars and how to make them go, and find a veritable ****load of competetion to play with.

Any opinions Spec3 (NASA) or SpecE36 (BMW CCA)? They may have a good turn out in SE...

Road & Track's latest issue has an article by Peter Egan about vintage racing Formula Ford. Tires last a season and engines for several. Lots of races in most areas. Competitive cars sell for $25k and the market is strong with lots of good cars and an active market.

Check out SpecE30 w/ NASA Mid-Atlantic. Next race at VIR (this upcoming weekend) has 20 of them signed up.

I used to race with SCCA but my idea of a day well-spent isn't Practice-Qualify-Race then go home. For my money PCA is way more track time spent with better competition and more of it. SCCA's 6'ish run groups and 3 sessions/day makes for too much down-time. NASA might work for you if you have a strong region. My 2 cents.

In the SE most SCCA weekends have at least one, maybe 2 endurnace races that most classes are able to run (open wheel and big bore cars are left out usually). Yes, the big nationals are just 2 qualis and a race but in SRF you'll have 30-40 cars identical to yours racing against you. And the level of competition is second to none in the club level here in the SE.

FF motors do not last for seasons at original power levels, the life is measured in hours. I know a number of guys running vintage FF who rebuild their engine after 6-8 weekends. The tires do last for a season.

^^If you are running Formula F, you can run a Honda and it lasts years. Mike Rand had one put in his Crossle 35.

There was a very nice F class Boxster for sale here not too long ago. F is a pretty strong class and this may fit in a GTS class with Nasa.

Spend $40k on a SpecBox and $10K bringing it back and forth from Texas.

And as usual Streak is discouraging anyone else from joining his class. Still afraid of competition?
