Legal to carry gas jugs on trailer
Ordered a new trailer. After placing the order remembered forgot to order mount for gas jugs. That's when I noticed they don't offer any mounts. Seems strange, could it be due to laws re carrying gas in jugs on a trailer?? Guess all of the mounts my buds have are custom made.
Just saw they are a sponsor so I can say it's a Trailex!

note that in NJ, they are only allowed to fill RED jugs, happened to me last time I was at NJMP. Fortunately, the attendent had some red tape on hand and let me slide.............

I always liked the "Scribner" brand. Many race shops carry them as well but just Google "Scribner Plastics 5 Gallon Utility Jug" and you will find many that carry them online. The Scribner brand also offers replacement caps, hoses, cap seals, vents, funnel filters, so you can replace as needed without having to buy a whole new jug.
OG Racing, a Rennlist, and PCA, and NASA sponsor also carries them. It's always good to support those companies that support our addiction.
Besides, the guys at OG are always super helpful.

FYI - I believe the laws for Maryland and California are a little different for fuel jugs should you be towing into those areas. I'm not sure how well it is enforced though. I'm sure some others from those states can chime in if you ever travel to those.
I prefer red jugs myself and always best to keep them out of the UV/sunlight, fuel is best kept in darker jugs, so I have always been told.
If you have a generator you might keep a separate color jug just for the generator if you use different fuel for race car and generator. Or just put race gas in the generator ! It keeps them running real good !

VP Racing and Scribner jugs are for transport only. They do not have spouts that close automatically that are needed on jugs to fill fuel tanks on vehicles. Bear this in mind if ever asked about your jugs. Note that the EPA-approved jugs are pretty terrible at their designed use, but they are required:
Portable Fuel Container Program
EPA is establishing standards that will limit hydrocarbon emissions that evaporate from or permeate through portable fuel containers such as gas cans. Gas cans are consumer products used to refuel a wide variety of gasoline-powered equipment, including lawn and garden equipment, recreational equipment, and passenger vehicles that have run out of gas. The new requirements also apply to diesel and kerosene containers. Starting with containers manufactured in 2009, the standard limits evaporation and permeation emissions from these containers to 0.3 grams of hydrocarbons per gallon per day. We are also adopting test procedures and a certification and compliance program in order to ensure that containers meet the emission standard over a range of in-use conditions.
EPA has worked closely with major container manufacturers and it is expected that the new cans will be built with a simple and inexpensive permeation barrier and new spouts that close automatically.
Full rule.

I noticed recently that Pitpal sold jug holders that do not have a bottom to them.
"PitProducts" jug holders have a back and base. Just make sure whatever you order has the construction you want. As in everything, the cheap ones may be cheap for a reason.
Please note, I am not calling anything Pitpal makes "cheap" in design, just different in this case.
The OP was asking about an open trailer so this may not be exactly on topic but worth mentioning.
