there's not a lot you can do about deer, other than shoot them.
arming the flaggers wouldn't be bad, and it sure would keep the passing under yellow in check.

Sort of like a reverse workers choice award.

Wow! Driver reacted quickly, took hands off steering wheel, covered his face. Glad he's OK.

i dont know.
this only happens in usa.
you are all missing the point.
why is the deer there?
it's a race track, not a nature preserve, not a zoo. no deers, no cows. no animals.
there's a reason we drive on race track. if unpredictable deers are there, we might as well just drive 180 on canyon road and hwy and see if some pedestrian and/or bikers come at u....

ban the deer.

Yeah, they ban them, but they just won't obey!

Just watched the video know holy crap that would scare the crap out of me!

PS I wave to all my fans all the time, both on and off the track

We just have small varmints on the tracks out here, rabbits, lizards, etc. I tell all my students that if one gets in the way on track, run em over! Don't swerve, hit the brakes, etc. They're small enough to not cause any damage to the car and it's far worse to try and avoid them.

Luckily nothing as large as a deer on track out here...

This used to be a big problem out at Bridgehampton, too, and the workers used the signal to warn drivers. It was worst early in the morning as the deer head out, and then late afternoon when they return. I came under the fearsome bridge once at 130+ to find one just off line. The slightest swerve and I'd have been in a memorial. A formula car guy with an open face helmet once got very screwed up.
This one at SP happened so fast it scared the **** out of me, and I'm only watching.
Waving had nothing to do with it, nor did the driver even have a chance to react, which is probably a good thing. Try an evasive maneuver and it will just be a bigger accident. We were taught to just hit it square. You see that on the highway all the time; skid marks into the woods for trying to avoid. They hit it anyway and then have a bigger wreck.

I hit the deer at SP at 125mph and the damage was impressive. It cut the deer in half and the rear body broke the door, window and made a mess of the side of the car. The front hit the lexan windscreen and bounced over the car but not before peeling the fender back to the cowl, breaking the fender, hood, and oil cooler. The funny part is that I still finished 4th in the race even though I missed the last lap.

Anyone that hasn't spent time in Mid-lantic states has no idea how bad the deer situation is. Vitual ban on hunting and no natural predators = population run rampant. Good luck trying to miss one of them when they come out of the woods on a right-angle at +30mph.

Driver did exactly what he should have and was lucky.

You have time to look at flaggers instead of focusing on the track?!
