Gotta disagree with you there.
Superman could have avoided that. He spun the Earth backwards fercryinoutloud.
I also think that Ironman and Green Lantern could have avoided that.
I don't think that Thor, Hawkeye, Captain America or the Hulk could have. Add batman to the no list and Spiderman to the could have list.
None of the above would have been hurt of course.

I take a hand off the wheel to:
shift
to key the radio
to turn on the windshield wipers when it starts raining
to turn the windshield wipers on high when it really starts raining
to turn off the windshield wipers when it stops raining
to adjust the cool suit
to recycle the ABS when curbing knocks it out
to indicate I'm gonna pull into the pit lane (mandatory at many events)
to indicate to followers that we are catching up to the slow moving train behind the pace car on FCY
to point by a faster car and let him know I know he's there
to start the 5 minute timer when I enter pit lane during an enduro
to thank you wave to a slower car that made it easier for me to get by
to let flaggers know I got their signal
to wave to corner workers on the cool-down lap
to rudely let my friends know I think they are Number One
The only time I take both hands off the wheel is to cover my eyes as I enter the Kink at Road America.

I've only been on the track a few times so far but plan to spend a lot more time there soon. This thread has made me realize I need to buy a tinted visor so I can keep it down on sunny days!

What your seeing is the drivers that frequent the track are happy the guy is alive, but the experts who have never even driven the track are sure it was avoidable.
Seth, thanks for posting. It reminds me that the thicker Lexan windshield was worth every penny.

This guy is on one of the other forums I'm on. He wasn't injured and said he's going visor down from now on! The car wasn't too damaged, front bumper cover, passenger front fender and the windshield.
Scary moment for sure.

I wonder how many of the critics here wouldn't have jerked the wheel left (natural reaction when something is coming from the right) and ended up in the trees.... or jerked right into the path of the cars he just passed.
IMO, driver did a very good job of controlling a very sudden and unavoidable situation.

Bad enough my car got smashed, but to add insult to injury the HyperFest emcee told ten thousand Hillbillians that I was responsible for the thirty minute Daisy Duke delay.
