In a statement on his condition, Toyota said: "Anthony Davidson was taken to the circuit medical centre following his accident during the Le Mans 24 Hours. Doctors at the circuit have confirmed that Anthony is suffering from shock and back pain, however there are no signs of any injuries and he is walking and talking with no problems.

"He will be taken to a local hospital for precautionary checks but the team is relieved and happy to hear he is okay."

 

Yet again, a badly driven Ferrari takes out a front-running LMP1 car (referring to Rocky, not McNish)

Just heard the report on Davidson. 3 fractured vertebrate. Still has feeling in his limbs...so all appears ok so far.

Prayers for a solid recovery. That was a serious crash.

WTF is it with these GT drivers? YOU KNOW many dozens of times in a race you will have an LMP in your rear view - you can see them - and they will close fast!

 

Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like most of the incidents have been caused by "gentlemen drivers" rather than the pros. Of course all that separates most of us here from being gentlemen drivers is having a few spare million dollars...

 

yeah I think they need to redefine "amateur". some of these guys have little experience and no racecraft, it's a miracle nobody's been killed the last few years.

 

Do you know any other pro racing sport where amateurs are on the track with pros at the same time ? Would you agree with a pro Motocross race where pros are jumping 100' gaps while much slower vets would race at the same time ?

I know endurance racing does that for decades but it still doesn't make sense if it wouldn't be for the $$ these gentlemen drivers bring to the table, it wouldn't exist. The usual story of allowing amateurs for development of future pros is BS. No 55 years old amateur will turn pro anytime soon. The only reason for this is $$$.

 

you actually see well funded amateurs at all levels of racing (remember Hiro Matsu****a in the Panasonic Indycar?), but the majority of it occurs in sports cars...both in Europe and the US (Daytona 24, Sebring, etc). and it's always been that way.

the issue today is the huge speed gap between slow amateurs in a GT and fast pros in a prototype.

 

Meh, you saw plenty of dumb moves by some of the pros and a pile by the lead Audi drivers, the armatures hit rate was about the same...some real low percentage moves. I would think that the seasoned drivers would just look at the AM placard on the back and pretend its an "R"...

 

If it wasn't for the gentleman drivers, there wouldn't be "Professional" sports car racing in the world as we know it today (or at all). And the majority of Professional sports car drivers who barely squeak by making a living would be doing something else.

I'm not saying they (gentleman drivers/paying AM's) shouldn't be better, just stating a fact. :-)
