I've driven MPSCs in sub-freezing temps and they were fine (was ~28 one time at Road Atlanta). Just need to do a few accelerations/stops to get bit of heat into them.

Not a fan of the MPSC in the cold and agree with Bob they are uber-*** in the rain. Hence why I suggested RA1 shaved to 6/32

I use RA1 as street tires on my Viper, so I can use the throttle. I can also autocross (not very good though) and track them. Tried drifting once and they were lousy - too much grip!

I think the NT01 is the best all-around street-and-track tire. Same compound as the RA1 (they say), but no need to shave it.

Now this I'll agree with. I raced on them in the rain at Lime Rock and it was downright scary. RA1s are ok in the rain, but not nearly as good in the dry as MPSCs in my view.

There are a few " extreme summer performance" tires that you can drive to the track even in the rain (if you're careful) and still keep up a good pace on track:

Dunlop Z1 Star Spec
Yoko AD08
Hankook RS-3
Bridgesone RE-11

I have had very good results with the Dunlop and Yoko tires.

Good luck,

Went to Yoko AD048 this spring. 60 mile round trip to track. Fine so far. Only time will tell.

The Michelin pilot super sport is an incredible tire. A true street tire that can run on the track with very good performance. It is the current tire of choice for most of the top one lap guys.

How can you rate this against a dedicated R spec like the Nitto? Assuming the MPSS is a slower tyre than it's MPSC which seem to have question marks under a certain temp.

Not the N-Spec MPSC....those are horrible....nowhere near the grip,of even the Toyo R888.

I am on my second set on AD08 and they are the best tire I ever had. However, I will NT01 for the next set to find out if they are better. Sizes are a lit bit of an issue but I followed some advice here on rennlist.
