When Fred was in D he was beating most of the E cars but that doesn't mean all D cars should be in E. There are plenty of Euro SCs out there with average drivers and it's no coincidence that the top cars are also meticulously maintained by the top shops, always have fresh motors, always run new tires, and have great drivers behind the wheels, some of whom also hold (or held) lap records in other cars in other classes.

Great point on it is the totla package which often gives the results. Best car, best driver, best support etc. Still the driver though IMHO which is the biggest variable!!!!!

It's an interesting question... Of course you can't put an average driver in a top car and expect him to win E class. But could a top driver win E class in an average car??... I doubt it... not when other top drivers show up...

Back to on topic ..... E (old F) and GTC3 generally have the highest car count. Quick look thru RennPoints.com (thank you Brian P) and I find the following:

38 - GTC3, 2007, Road America
34 - GTC3, 2006, Sebring
33 - E, 2007, Road Atlanta
32 - E, 2006, Watkins Glen
31 - E, 2005, Watkins Glen

Ask Brian P to query the RennPoints database to know for sure for races from 2004 on.

How many (estimated %) of the Euro SC's were manufactured as Euro and how many are backdated Carrera's?

I don't know of any backdated Carreras, but there are several USA SCs that have been converted to Euro specs. I think the Carreras are going to be more competitive this year with the weight reductions. Maybe not the 915 cars so much, but the G50 cars got a huge boost.

Mine is in this category as well as a few other s I know of. It is nearly impossible to find a late Euro spec 3.0, let alone an entire genuine late Euro SC race car. When converting, the most hard to find critical part is the correct Euro fuel distributor. Someone I know who converted last year is still looking for one.

Using the same source and looking at total drivers participating nationally in 2011 the biggest fields are:

E: 122 drivers
GTC3: 63 drivers
SPB: 59 drivers
GTC4: 49 drivers

Looks like E is the dominant class, at least in total numbers

For SPB to be 3rd largest and such a young class I would say it has the most potential.

Never know whats going to happen, look at Thunderbolt last year. An excellent SPBox had pole, I was able to pull him to T1, but circumstances later on saw me mowing and another competitive D car got by me. Two D cars finished 1&2 over 44 cars including E and SPB. I'm pretty sure we didn't cheat.. well at least I didn't..
