Hi guys,
I'm a 944 guy. My best buddy just bought a 911 (1988) race car. I'm in charge of planning the work to be done on it and that includes the redoing of the roll cage.
Does anybody has pictures of a good, sturdy roll cage. The car is prepped as a GT (PCA) car. I'd like to put something very structural to the car. Maybe that 993 RSR cage design would be a good starting point?
Any help appreciated.
Regards

I'm a firm believer in the people that know how to build the best cages for Porsches are Porsche. So looking at the factorys version is always the best place to start. That said safety improvements over the years are most evident in the latest derivations,so looking at the latest generation of cup car is a good place to go. And of course you have to take into account the sanctioning body rules. Those are prescriptive engineering rather than analytical, this is where a good builder comes into the picture.
Safety devices has(had? Haven't looked in a while) cage diagrams for different cars. Their standard club bolt in cages are lacking IMHO but in the "custom" weld in section they had diagrams of cup car cages that could be custom ordered that gave a good idea of where to start. Also I would do a search on Geoffery Rings 964RSR clone build lots of good ideas and a nice build for a 911...

Try to go to Rothsport's web page, they have a replica of the 993 Matter cage that were factory installed in the 993 Super Cup and GT2 race cars. They have a version that also fit the old 911's.

I have also attached the 2012 SCCA cages rules for your reference.

Thanks for the kind words guys, there are a lot of hours that went into that cage in both design and fabrication. Now it I can just find some more time to finish off the car. haha
Another nice 911 cage with a closer eye towards weight then I used is this one. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsc...iew-slope.html
