Mobile, Huntsville, anywhere in the Arkansas, northern Ms, northern Al, northern Ga, SC. They are fairly temperate, you don't have to worry about liberals, decent immigration laws, low taxes, and you don't have to worry about yankees. Some decent tracks near at hand also. But personally I think you need to stay in the area, have you considered somewhere like Magnolia or Sommerville.

Seattle has plenty of water, four (and growing) race tracks within a four+ hour tow and surprisingly non restrictive gun laws. And if you like shooting suppressed

Heck, we even have the owner of a popular gun shop & shooting range racing with us in 944 Cup.

Yeah interesting. We have some long time friends in that area. Hmmm.

RLM, that won't help. Texas is toast. Austin, Magnolia, doesn't matter. However the Mobile/Gulf Shores area is one area we are considering.

If you like sun, happy people, or anything coming close to "its a dry heat" then skip Seattle. I was up there a few times. Took me days in SD to dry out.

For mountains - I am very happy in Park City. 60 minutes from Miller Motorsports Park, but all other tracks are a hike... Las Vegas is only 5.5 hours by car... Best skiing in the US (snow doesn't pack)...

For SE - I am a huge fan of Nashville. Eastern TN is nice as well, but Nashville has great culture and the people are great. Worth a look...

I would invite you to Santa Fe but we don't have much water (ask my airboat) and tracks not so much. But the weather is nice. And suppressors keep the coyotes guessing...

Ok, enough ranting. Dave, come to Florida. No income tax, real estate prices are low, balanced budget, Sebring, Daytona, the people are friendlier (except the transplants in South Florida...), great beaches, lots of water (everything is always green), Republican State House and Senate and Republican Governor. Finally, a helluva nice guy in Boca that only just asks for free advice once in a while...
You forgot to mention PBIR and Homestead also. Various top of the line race shops and teams also.

The case for Charlottesville:

VIR 2.5 hours,
Summit Point, 2.5 hours
Blue Ridge Pkwy, 15 minutes
Beach, 3.5 hours
James River, 20 minutes
Close enough to DC and Richmond to take in a lot of culture, as desired
A liberal leaning community in a conservative state (if you prefer more conservative, Richmond and Roanoke are possibilities)
It's got about 2 months of real winter, summers are too humid, but spring and particularly fall are sublime.
How old are your kids? State schools are about as good as they get (UVA, William & Mary, Virginia Tech...)

Daughter is 5. Being around people with my same identicla viewpoint is not essential. I am tolerant of other views, and relish it. Heck, I live in Austin, Texas, which next to Boulder and SF/Berserkeley is pretty much Hippie Central. No issues with that sort of thing, the world is a big enough place for a variety of views...and in fact I want our daughter to get a variety of views.

Dave, we need at least 1000 mile buffer zone, so just stay outta the northeast

(If it were me, I'd consider the Carolinas/Virginia area)

+1. If I could move anywhere, it would be Greenville. We almost moved there from Michigan, but the doctor that was supposed to retire to open a spot for my wife decided not to, so the opportunity was missed. Nice climate, great topography, great proximity to lakes, and as you mentioned, easy drive to a LOT of tracks. Ashville is probably the microbrew capital of the South, and it is close by.

Plus, it is just a nice city. They've done so much to make it attractive over the past decade or so. There is enough industry there, foreign and domestic, to attract a broad range of people. A nice tax base to help take care of the city, and the people to support probably a nice range of good restaraunts.

On edit, just saw you have a young daughter. That was a factor when we left Ann Arbor, as well. We wanted a place that had many/most of the amenities of a big city like Atlanta (prior home), but that was a bit easier to raise a family in, so was small enough to give a good feel for community. So places like Chattanooga (which I LOVE), Knoxville, and of course, Greenville. Our girls (twins) turn 7 next week, and our son just turned 2. And along those lines, we HAD to have a place near water. Both 67Queen and I grew up around boats, and consider that the ultimate family bonding thing. No idea if you've been around anything like that, but that is an important thing to me.

Also, if your travels take you through Knoxville and you want to check it out, you have accomodations. Probably not ideal for you, as the closest track is still 4 hours away, but it isn't bad. Racer's Edge is based here, Karl seems to make it work.
