Default Indycar is a Joke....

I love technology. So if they are racing for real, I could really get into it.

But the way the officials are determining outcome - it makes it look like a farce:

They really screwed the pooch with that race. Although Barnhart admitted his mistake, I think he is done. What I dont get is him saying, "gee, we didn't get any reports from trackside about the conditions". Lets see, its raining you have to make a decision whether to go green and you have no info from a driver, pit crew, official on the ground? WTF where they thinking?

They have also been very inconsistent with penalty calls on drivers. I agree it is really looking like a farce. It is really a shame, in its heyday, CART was the best racing in the world.

I have to agree 100% on that one as well ... It's a shame that some professional teams are pumping so much money into a series run by amateurs !

Cheers !

While he admitted mistake he blamed just about everyone else from the fans (for not having umbrellas up (which is against NHMS rules no less)) to the pace car driver.

The guy is a world class douche.

A real shame they messed that one up. IndyCar has real potential and is starting to show it, I don't think this incident will break the momentum, but those stands sure did seem empty. I was at that very race years ago and the place was packed.

We raced there many moons ago with CART and the stands were always packed!

CARTs worst race was still better than the best IRL race to date.
The only reason the IRL (the all American all oval Tony George race series) won over CART is because TG has the Indy 500.

American open wheel racing died at the split, head to Europe if you want to race, stay in America if you want to run NASCAR or IRL, which will soon merge.

I'm not sure NASCAR running IRL wouldn't be an improvement. The Grand Am series is entertaining, and pretty good racing in spite of fugly DP cars and rules that allow some GT entries to be tube framed and some not. But what becomes of the Indy 500?

Sitting just after start finish, there was no reason to have an umbrella becuase it wasn't raining that hard. I'm surprised the track was as bad as it was judging by the rainfall. We never even put on rain coats! I'm amazed they didn't have someone down there checking it though.

Drivers were apparently radio-ing in that the rain had worsened from when the yellow was first shown.
