Default 275 or 245 NT01 in front?

Hi,

would it make any sense to put 275/35 tire in front, ever?
I have one more pair of RA1 in 335, currently run it with 245 RA1 in front, car is so-so fine, a bit of understeer compared to how it felt with 265/335 setup but it is overall quite solid and balanced. I did not feel any obvious signs of severe disbalance at last DE, rear end is planted my be a bit more than I would like it to be but overall it was controllable and predictable enough on 245 tires in front and car`s steering was fine.

As all RA1s are now gone from horizon i will have to get NT01 set of fronts to run them with 335 rears, so I wonder if it would make any sense to try fit 275/35 in front or is it better to stay with same 245/40? Especially considering NT01 in 245 is a bit wider than current 245 RA1? Not sure if 275 tire will even fit. With 265 tire i had may be about of half inch of clearence inside. Have anyone done this on car with NB GT3 suspension? How does car feel on 275/335 setup on 9/12 wide rims?

My mechanic does not even consider Toyo for tires , all his clients are either on racing slicks or Hoosiers, so, I cannot really get an answer from him.

More is almost always better - if you can make it fit I bet you won't be disappointed.

IIRC Rad (NJ-GT) had 275 toyo's on the front of his 996 GT3 at one point.

If you can get it to fit right.

You do not realize how much your car understeers now.

well, it will take some time to wear off shaved ra1 tires it seems. i'm used to rate how 50 rated kumhos were wearing and A6 hoosiers, with those toyos it is not even close which is quite surprising but fine.
i did 1 event so far on those shaved front ra1 tires and they did not get any measurable wear at all as it seems, tread is measuring same depth as it was, 3-3.5/32. i should try to drive them harder at next event as they seem to hold up well enough.

still, if anybody used such a 275/335 setup personally - i would love to hear about it as it will be quite a heavy tire in front, i wonder how car behaves with it.

BobT993 runs that setup on his 993 RSR clone. Even with a 280 hp motor his car flies and the grip is phenomenal. He easily broke the NASA track record at NJMP. Send him a PM if you want his opinion.

but 275 on a 9" rim is a bit of extreme, so, i am just concerned if it will feel too wobbly with such a wide tire on a 9" rim. if only toyo or nitto would make 255 or 265 tire it would not be a dilemma but it is just a PITA to have so little options.

kinda funny, at last DE i saw a guy in a new cayman who had 4 tires mounted to a roof rack. i wonder how it did not collapse, it should be above of 200lbs on all 4 wheels and roof weight is 160lbs max. my mechanic says 200lbs on top should bend front pillars...

i do not argue.

well, i ordered pair of nt01s in 275/35 for front. will see if they will fit with no issues. 265 rubber was fine, hopefully 275 will not rub neither.

Can't help you with the 911, but I run 275's all around on my 944. Totally neutral...

Wait - aren't you selling a set of 225/35/18 R888?

I run 255/315 and it feels just about perfect. Granted, slightly different car - 6GT3 - but still...

Here's Rad's old thread: I thought he was running them on CCW's, actually had them on stock GT3 wheels (8.5" wide). However it was for auto-x work not track work.
