Yes it's true,
Heads up if heading to Thunderhill as they are now Strictly ENFORCING Sound to 103
Went to PCA this weekend and got in 1 session before Black Flag Saturday AM. Put turn down pipes on pointed up and in but still blowing 105+ and had to put in on the trailer. Nothing I can do but mufflers which I need to figure out now.

Did they just move the sound station to the proper place? It used to be > 75ft from the track and I think it's supposed to be measured @ 50ft, so everyone was a little lower than normal?

Sound was @ turn 15 - Not sure if closer to track or not. Many people also mentioned they were mobile and moving around possibly since it's just tripod mounted & mobile?

Our 25 hour enduro car would be lucky to hit 92db. But it is an 86 325e

There ARE people who live within sound proximity to the track. I'll guess in some cases a long time. My grandfather landed next town up in 1914 to farm.

Anyway, 103 is so obnoxious on the face of it how can this be an infringement on our use?

did you put turn down pipes and point them away from the sound table?
usually that is worth near 3db. pointing up doesnt usually work, and straight down is not as effective. angled is usually best but it has to be away from the sound sensors (if you know where they are)
thats too bad, I cant believe that sound would EVER be an issue there. there is NOTHING around thunderhill and you cant hear 105db anywhere close to the town which is 7 miles away.

very strange that this is an issue now for T-hill.

I just need to put some mufflers on, turn downs pointed away helped but not enough. The car is new to me and first time I ran it @ TH so just hadn't addressed this yet and was hoping it wasn't a problem.

Now need to consider whether stock mufflers or some aftermarket ones?

I dont think stock mufflers are needed for 103. 103 is pretty loud.
im a big V8 with only a 3.5" exhaust with a borla can at the back.
I know the 911s are different, but lots of cup cars and 911s run with us at SCCA events where 103 is standard at alll tracks . you might want to look at some of their configurations . shouldnt be that hard to get down 2 db. a very compact straight through muffler toward the end of the system would do that . I know fitting it is a challenge, but im sure there is a muffler you can cut in to the system and not hurt performance.
