Something about this era in racing still satisfies. Not a lot of sophistication but plenty of brute power and good driving. How good to see car control without all the 'Whizzbangery'.

Enjoy the 'Occupational health and safety' standards later in the race...lol

Those were the days. Men were men and you just got in and droved the car.

I wish I could find footage of Peter Brock and Alan Jones fighting it out in a 7L Chevy Monza & 935 respectively. They used to do exhibition match races. The Monza would leap away but the 935 would wind up and overhaul Brocky. Great days indeed.

Beautiful setting amidst the flowing eucalyptus, pretty girls, and a hard fought race with lots of excitement. The fire crew was there quickly and remarkably stayed until they got it out. Hell, even the announcers were good. I'm soooo ready to go......

I wasn't even alive in those heady days of racing, but they are certainly my favorite!

Hey that's pretty cool. Our racing down here has always been a bit behind the times in some respects but also has a real innate toughness about it. Not always cutting edge but usually entertaining. We just don't have the population to sustain massive financial development but guys got by on their ingenuity. Fun to watch.

That was awesome. When you think about it, the 80s in some ways were some of the best years of racing. The Turbo era in F1, great sports car racing like this, the Mercedes vs BMW in DTM, the Porsche 956/962 dominating. Even NASCAR was worth watching since the cars still looked like the production cars they were modeled after. GM had to put the bubble backs on the Monte Carlo and Grand Prix to compete with the slippery shape of the 84 Thunderbirds.

Cool Pat,

I miss those days, used to love watching the Sports Sedans at Lakeside in the 80s when I started racing. Historic Sports Sedans might be the future for the 944 when it arrives back in Oz later in the year, what do you think? Just have to swap in the Chev and I'm good to go

I agree Mark. Great days indeed.

Funny you should say that Steve. Been thinking about that myself. At this stage I think TimeAttack is my main goal this year. Very open rules. Going to be some stupidly fast cars here this year. Probably into the 1.28s at Eastern Creek...on R specs!!!
