If you have the money, why not spend it on something you enjoy? Yes, most people can't or wouldn't spend six figures every year on racing but if you have desire to race, you almost can't ignore it. I always have and probably always will spend a way too much on racing because it's one of the few things in my life that never gets boring.
The other thing I would say is that the way you look at those guys spending thousands a day at the track is the same way the average person perceives you. You may not be spending as much, but the average Joe sees absolutely no difference.

I love it that we have these guys at our events, their races make for a great spectacle when I am not out on the track, but I also enjoy slumming it with my homeys in our over 30 year old cars. And when you have more friends than cash, you will always have help in the paddock.

140 pounds and I still got my hair too!
But the addiction is strong... If others can do arrive and drive in a new GT3 cup I figured I'd try it. I don't have a high hourly rate like money jugglers (most cup car drivers) or CEOs or surgeons so I work 70 hours a week to support my habit. Sometimes I go back to towing my '73 911 with no helper at all at the track and it's just as much fun but different.

I can assure you all, it is physically impossible to be in the operating room for enough hours of every day to pay for what we're talking about here.

I don't care where they came from, just want one to sponsor me, or to hookup with one of their daughters. That's about my only chance of getting of getting on the proverbial "other side of the tracks".

GMG has way too much of my money but at least I know my car will be set up right. They are a good at what they do.
But for me I like not having the on track support and doing things myself, I find it relaxing tinkering with my car and making sure all is well.

I am one of "those" people.
I can't quite determine how to respond to your post. Sometimes you read a post, then have to re-read it to make sure you didn't get it wrong.
What am I thinking? I am thinking that I love to do this, and can afford to do it, so I do it. I dont put it before other expenses, like taxes, my kids college, etc.
By the way, while I was well taken care of by my team, I did not, repeat, did not take advantage of every catered meal. I had to eat a few meals on my friends Prevost.
