Default M96 996 DE Car Help

Friend has 996, car did the usual DE smoking deal, took it to a major P-car store, had the X51 and trick air oil separator installed. Was supposed to pick it up but they called to tell him they can't get it to run so they are yanking the motor to remove the stuff, put it back as it was and give it back to him (hopefully running).

I can't believe this has been such an ordeal, anyone recommend someone he can go to for advice? Located in the Atlanta area.

He does have a call in to Jack but also looking for other suggestions too as this is the second shop that's not been able to help him so he's getting pretty po'd. What's confusing to me is what in the install of the X51 stuff would cause the motor to not run??

not sure what all the issues are, but smoking at DE (and in particular on start up) are symptoms of overfill.

Common wisdom is that X51 might help. Same with deep sump but only with extended pickup.

What setup does your buddy have?

Don't know the part numbers but he said they put the X51 baffled sump and the "larger" air oil separator in the car. $2500.00 worth of parts (might include engine removal). He's been chasing this for a while & is aware of the overfill issue. The shop that can't get the car to run is not an independent shop. The real pisser is they claim they can't get the car to run so they're giving up and putting it back as it was when he took it in.

I use the same shop for my 987 and have been pleased with their work.

Wow. $2500! That's pretty steep for x51 and AOS.

As for setup, I meant the car in general. Suspension, tires, brakes etc.

I think the $2.5/k includes R&R the engine. Track pads, Nittos, stock shocks and bars, alignment.

Who would be more definitive to fix an m96 than flat6? I can't imagine that locally anyone would come close.

Agreed, and frankly I suggested that he contact Jack but he thought the place he took the car to had done the job before for another local fellow. I am pretty sure he will contact Jack tomorrow unless the shop that has the car figures out what's wrong. Still a mystery to me why dropping the motor to install the larger AOS and doing the X51 sump deal would cause the car to not run right???? Bizarre.

Take it to Bob Sanderson at Goldcrest Motorsports in Kennesaw. Bob has forgot more than most know about race cars.

Jack Lewis would be able to fix it also. No doubt.

Hi Randy, great suggestions. I know Goldcrest did a similar mod for a Peachstater with a 987. You going to make the club race??

Prob covering the obvious but it's def a later 3.6 996 he is having it all done on right.
The motorsports aos doesn't work right on the earlier engines.

Interesting, define earlier vs. later? I should remember but don't, think it's an '02 but will confirm.

Or in high G turns with good rubber...but same difference. Overfill is exactly what I thought of first.

Why it wouldn't be running after R&R of motor could be any number of things. Impossible to diagnose over the interwebs.

We'd be glad to help your friend out. I've remedied lots of cars with this symptom and generally it hasn't been one single contributing factor that took care of the issue.

Our spring schedule is mostly filled, but since he is local we might be able to work him in.
BTW- I haven't received any calls or emails from anyone with this situation recently, are you sure he contacted us?
