I just noticed THAT new vet is racing is my buddies VET. (Wardlow Racing)
That is funny. I have a lot of video of that car. in fact, did you see the "flying vet " in my rear cam shot? thats Bill's new car as of a few weeks ago! didnt know that HE was the one that bought it. Hmm, going to have to find a race with him now. I do know the car has near 420rwhp, and I do know the weight, as I helped set the car up on the scales. so, he will have to dumb the car down with the old cams or put on a lot of weight. its 3150 with driver now.

Thats funny, I know the car better than he does! it was almost exactly my car performance -wise, before the hot cams were installed. sad to see it sold, but glad it is still in the region!

thats really good, and sounds about right. what is the rear wheel hp of this car??
with the bypass or hill? still a good time eitherway, great time with the hill!

I think there is now way that the discussed, RX8 with street tires and 3400lbs can go through 8 at 115mph on a good day.

This is WITH T5 (cyclone, not bypass). Sorry I forgot to specify. I will edit my post.

Unfortunately I have no idea on rwhp of my car. Owner's manual says is 320hp at the crank, and it's totally stock....so with 12%-15% driveline loss it should be in the 270-280 range at the wheels assuming it's healthy.

Going backward....

Drove it before the full track was complete... and later on the full track in both a hot-rodded 951 and my current 911 car. All with cyclone. Never raced it backward however.

I remember reminding all instructors about the cyclone at each DE first thing Saturday morning. Very important to do very slow recon laps to start because folks would invariably get tripped up by the sharpness of the corner. If we were not diligent, lots of folks would go off and make a mess of the track getting back on.

I remember watching my friend in his <2000 pound 911 with a 700bhp ? 3.8 tt motor giving another friend a ride, and the ginormous speeds he reached before the turn 15 braking zone. I think 160-170 mph rings a bell... but whatever it was it was certainly much higher than top speed in 1 goin' the other way. Attention getting.

And I of course remember the consequences of a newbie's light off track excursion on approach to cyclone and a windy dry day. His exhaust sparked a fire that lit up the entire hill and the fire made a b-line for LA. I think that was the only time I have been at a race track where I was happy to see a chopper.

I liked turn 8 going backward... I am not sure about the entire experience. One thing that was weird back in the day is that a PCA GGR lap record got set that was out of synch with the rest of the lap records for quite a while... may still be.

Was just looking over my data from a few laps I ran on Wednesday and remembered this thread. Here's a screenshot of the important data zoomed in on turn 8 (at least what I tend to think is important):

This was in my 2009 GT3 Cup using Michelin Slicks w/ about 10-12 heat cycles. Hope it's useful..

ps: yes i'm a pansy and tap the brakes before going in. to put it in perspective, front brake pressure is over 800psi into turn 14.

You are NOT a pansy! You are loading the front tires, then able to crack open throttle to make a more stable platform.

This "no brakes" heresy means the car is not going that fast to begin with... (or the car is not capable of entry speeds to require it.)

I am not sure about the comments on braking for 8. If you are a good tire and up on the tires, you have to do what you have to do. So if that includes braking, so be it.

Mike: Are you going to be there at the next PRC event? I hope to be there... notsure whther I will race or not.

The next PRC event is May 14-15 at Thunderhill rite? I'll be there, but I'll be running the 09 in the Pirelli race group and doing some stints in my buddies E30 for the NASA Enduro. Probably won't have the fitness required to run in the PRC group as well. :-)
