I love my Cayman S, the R must be even more radical......

I wonder in what PCA class the R would fall in......

Boston DMD, according to Walt Fricke, the new PCA club racing rules chair, the Cayman R will be an I stock class car. It will be listed in the 2011 version of the rule book.

Now, the question is who will be the first to purchase and prep one to go club racing?

A slightly off topic question is: "Is the Porsche PDK transmission a performance improvement such that PCA club racing needs to consider cars with it a prepared car?" Something to ponder for next year's rules proposal period.

The real question is "will removal of the Cayman R's passenger seat be a disruption of the spirit of the 1960 "spirit" of the drive it to the track rules". And no AC?? How will someone drive it to the track in Florida in August? And no radio?? How will someone in New Jersey drive it.. period?

Walter Rohrl said it was. Who are we to argue?

This is only a trackday video that some joker put up on Youtube but it gives some insight into what PDK can do....passing far more powerful cars is more down to the ability of the gearbox rather than the talent of the driver from what I can see

The Cayman R with PDK should be one hell of a track car.

How does PDK hold up over time under track conditions (constant shifting at full throttle)?

Anyone know how much for an R&R on a PDK?

That is probably a $15k question.

The first guy to race one will probably learn the hard way how long it will last.

first gen PCCB brakes were great, but many guys learned that heavy duty track use was very expensive. PDK? My thinking is you really plan on racing one you better prepare for needing a new box sometime soon. I would hope it lasts, but until it has been shown to last you have to prepare for the worst.

To spec sport chrono plus which is very desirable, especially w/ pdk, you have to have a radio and PCM electronics package installed too.

I know several guys tracking pdk Cayamans, so far so good but it doesn't mean it'll stay that way, these are new, There have been several instances of fuel pump issues relaated to dfi

My guess is Porsche will build a FIA GT4 class car out of the Cayman R. They would sell a huge number of them.
