Aquisition cost is the cheap part. Racing it is another equation...

Like some wise guy said, "Which part of Porsche racing did yiou think was cheap? The Porsche part, or the Racing part?"

I suspect the people who buy these cars new want to keep current and the cups change quite a bit. If you are racing an older one you are not competitive against the most current version. The cars have to be sold to make room for the new one.
This has to be one of the softest used race car markets. With running costs so incredible high and setup limited to very skilled mechanics even the above average driver is ruled out. About a month ago I saw a very nice '6' cup with a low hrs engine for $55k.

I noticed it too. Lots of Cups for sale. I would love a 2000-01 car with no updates. I bet you could put Hoosiers on it, some ballast and slot it into NASA GTS4 and do well.

Big step but I think it's a great way to go to get a 6cup. They are reliable and fantastic to drive. I just finished my first season of racing in my 7GT3 which is the equivalent of a 6cup and it was a ton of fun. Expensive but I did a lot of laps with 100% reliability.

Great idea! 2900/340 should do it and would be easily attainable in an early cup. That would be a tough GTS4 car to beat at Mid Ohio next September....

JR:
I know! I think you could give the M3s a run for their money. I keep eyeballing the Zampedri car in the classifieds and you couldn't build a podium GTS4 car at the price the seller is asking (no affiliation with the car or the seller).

And not all are advertised.. I know of an 05 with fresh motor AND tranny that he would sell to the right offer.
