Worried Student At Road Atlanta DE
OK, so we ran our Peachstate Region PCA DE at Road Atlanta this weekend. So early Saturday morning the cars are rolling through tech inspection. Up rolls an Evolution Motorsports supercharged 997 with a brand new driver who has NEVER been on a race track in his life. He did inform us that he had met Hurley Haywood and had been given some pointers so he was sure that he was ahead of the curve. He then went on to explain his "concern". His "concern" was that his Michelin PS II tires were not rated high enough for the speed at which he intended to drive. (I swear I am not making this up)
We put one of our very best instructors in the car with him, a club racer with years and years of experience. The instructor said that during his first run of the day the student just "froze". Finally after many attempts to get the guy to respond he yells "Reboot! Reboot!" and the guy finally responded.
The student stayed the whole weekend and did a little better each time out, but a Mazda 3 could still kick his ***. What's funny is this: We never heard him express his "concern" over his tires not holding up again.

My car is a supercharged Porch 911. I should be in the fastest run group. These Miatas are holding me back.
I cannot drive flat out. Flat out, that is how I drive - Flat Out.

Sounds like you guys did a great job and the "new guy" got over his perceptions about expectations and settled into the real learning process, working on his own limitations and not blaming or commenting on tires anymore.
Too bad you hadn't been able to work your influences before he went and supercharged a 997..he was probably just guilty of being gullible and over eager.
Again, I would take heart form the progress he seemed to make as opposed to focusing on the misguided start...that's the real story!
Now, if he had gone away learning nothing that would be a tragedy!

Three Wheelin'
Hope he didn't mind the taste of humble pie.
Did you make sure to get his name and number? If he didn't learn, I could still use the suspension parts later when it gets parted out
