Default Lambo Trofeo Driver, on fire

... I'm not sure what the protocol is, but I'm fairly certain trying to get the driver out should be a top priority.

Gruesome reminder to keep safety first!

It is amazing that he survived the crash & the ensuing fire. Just a reminder that even though mishaps like this are rare, racing will always be a dangerous sport.

That sure looked like it was their top priority. They had extinguishers on the drivers door the whole time and a number of attempts to get the door open but the heat drove them back.

I think it shows the need for someone in a full suit that can handle the high heat to be on the scene though.

according to the story on jalopnik, it was a co-driver and crew member who finally pulled him out of the car, not safety crew...

Sequenced pictures of crash as it happened.

Seat and belts appear to have sheared right off. That was a HARD hit.

Wow, what didn't go wrong in that situation?

Wow. The angle of the original video is terrible. From those sequence of photos, you can tell the workers were trying to protect the driver (who was likely hanging out of the car.)

Side note - is it me, or did that Lambo just completely fall apart? Obviously a very hard hit, but we have seen some pretty significant crashes on here and I have never seen a driver get separated from the vehicle like that before.

Terrible shame. Best wishes to the driver and his family.

C.

It's always an incident like this that exposes the inadequacies of trackside safety.

This reminds me of Tetsuya Ota's crash.

Wow, the pictures are both incredible and aweful. It almost looks like he was "lucky" to be hanging out the side as the roof looked collapsed/pushed in.

Whats strikes me is how utterly useless the liquid extinguishers were in fighting the fire initially. Also, the 2 firefighters that arrived first are concentrating on the back and right side of the car, with absolutely zero effect, while the driver is hanging out of the cockpit, engulfed in flame. Not good.

Last thing I read, he was in stable condition in the ICU.

Still sequence - Notice the fire system bottle rolling down the track spewing it's contents - not much use when the mouting points fail
