I think aero helps...I'd rather carry a few more mph through T9/10 and most of the way down the straight than worry about losing a couple mph at the very end of the straight. Well, from a fast lap/qualifying standpoint anyway. If I'm racing and in front, being slow through T9/10 isn't a big deal as I can keep you behind me through there and then out accelerate you down the straight with less aero. So, I guess it depends.

The real dilemma is start finish location. It's pretty hard to get a run early enough coming out of T10 to get a pass clear before the tower on a final lap. Curtis, Eric, and I ended up almost 3 wide there last year at the line. Good thing my transponder was in the nose. I need a test day to add/delete wing and rebound prior to the event. Depends on the resurface I have heard is taking place.

The problem with them spending $ for a (much needed) repave is that a-holes like me will soon tear it up doing reverse 180's in 12,000 pound armored Suburbans.

I have no idea why they haven't yet built a separate area for that. If someone built a proper race track that was within a couple hours drive of DC and still accessible to points South, I think they could take most of the club business away from SP.

The State Dept wants to build a dedicated training facility in Maryland with a big track, to get away from SP, but the locals are a bunch of NIMBYdouches.

Bring it on down here to NC. We already have Blackwater and multiple military installments on the East coast and the NRA National Convention here in CLT in just a few weeks (starts on my birthday). We don't mind squeeling truck tires and gun fire.

Yeah well they wanted it closer to DC, so the picked rural Maryland. Great site IMO. I have taught at the BW site, it's great.

Speaking of Aero -- here's what happened to Phil Grabow just recently at VIR when his rear wing broke off at 150 mph:

I couldnt see the wing come off in the rear view mirror, was it there to see?

It almost looked like some pretty hard wrenching on the wheel for that kink of a turn at 148mph, but if he didnt have a wing at that speed, and he was expecting it, getting 300 to 500 lbs light all of the sudden, could certainly have that kind of unpleasant effect. that was nasty! Im kind of glad our race tracks dont have that kind of dependancy on aero. are tracks are just so slow. the fastest turn in all of our tracks, is around 100-110mph, the rest might have an approach faster, but the actual turns are much slower

I think he crashed because he was shuffle steering.

His speed calcs are just a "little" off base IMO..Marc Goosen, in the Riley track car (i.e. a Daytona Prototype with tunnels and more power), is only doing 140 at that point on the track.
