Default wheel bearing grease

What grease are you using? I am having trouble with Aluminum hubs and wheels bearing failure or pre-mature failure.

Thanks, Mike

I've been using the red Mobil 1 synthetic for everything but my CV's, no problems.

What is actually failing ? Is the grease melting or running out somehow ? What makes youthink it's a lube issue ?

Part of the issue might be a need to have the hub "looser" than normal as it seems the hub is transferring more heat and therefore more expansion than the stock hub. As far as the grease goes the bearing engineer is recommending a Mobilith SHC 220.

PM GregBBRD . He has extensive experience with this issue and may be able to help. I remember him mentioning this in a thread once before.

What is special about your hub / bearing set up? If nothing, then you shouldn't be having a problem.

I use Neo or Krytox (very expensive) for cars with highly stressed wheel bearings and CV's that require durability.

Neo or Redline, either are a great choice. I've also had good results with Amsoil 2000 Racing Grease. Krytox is really $$ like Steve said but it is indestructible. I can't imagine this is a lube related failure though...are you sure everything is in spec?

From Dupont Krytox FAQ:

Is Krytox® compatible with aluminum?
There is no reactivity with aluminum at temperatures below 288°C (550°F), but is not recommended for use in equipment that has bearing surfaces made of aluminum.

Try Neo before resorting to Krytox. Krytox is pretty nasty stuff. Don't breathe in the fumes if it gets hot!.
You can get Neo here.
