97 on low hp street and track driven car, good cold torque good modulation hot, good wear on pads and rotors. 97 until worn out then going to 01 or 06 on higher HP light weight track only car.

Interesting about the flat rotors working best? I definitely felt an improvement when going to the X-Ds but they cracked beyond use after 2 meets and some street driving. I'm going to try some floating slotteds next. Hope they provide the best of all worlds.
By "working best" I meant last the longest without cracking in 1/2.. They usually will wear down before breaking, whereas the slotted/drilled broke before they wore out.. I wouldn't say one or the other had better new performance on our cars.

I'm using the 06 on my SpecMiata and like them. They are a little wooden until you get some heat into them, but they do the trick for me. Good bite, modulation and last a long time on a miata. Used CarboTech before these, but gave up on them. Had too many pad deposit issues on the front rotors with them.

97s front on my Mini Cooper (stock rear) and very happy....used to use HT10s on my heavier BMWs and as the pad material wore down it would break off the backing plate in chunks.

Changing pad types leaves the old pad material on the disk and some are incompatible. So if you want to try another brand, best to clean the old disks off or try new disks.

Hi Mike, I always wondered about this....I only DE and use my 09 997S on the street a lot so I switch back to the stock pads. When I 1st put on the stock pads after a DE there is zero bite. I basically have to re-bed in the stock pads and as you might know stock pads wear quickly so I hate doing this re-bed in but thankfully I live near a lot of long straight country roads.

I have been useing RS29 Yellows for the last 2 years. Back in 2007 I tried out the PF97's and loved the initial bite these pads had and I felt I could brake much later witht hem than the Yellows I had been useing. However back in 07 I just turned solo and was leaving the 97's on for the little bit of street driving I did.
Anyway, I have been really wanting to try out PF97's or possibly 01's again but I just do not want to have any pad friction issues on the rotors flipping between stock and race pads.

How do you clean off the race pad transfer from teh rotors when swapping pads.

mdrums:
I have used plain steel wool and brake cleaner to remove pads material deposits on rotors. Just plain old steel wool, not SOS pads with detergent.

I am still driving stock pads on my 993 4S which is mainly a street legal DE car. I know that the 97s are "race pads" and I am wondering how many of you use them to get to and from the track. Is it even legal (DOT) to use them for regular street driving? I just do not want to swap pads back and forth?

What are other things to consider when driving them on the street. I am not too concerned about the noise.

Thanks

After trying Pagid Oranges I went back to the PFC97's that Gary had on the Pumpkin when I bought her. I feel I can modulate them much better than the Pagids and i do not notice any loss of braking power.

I drive to and from the track on the 97s....if you do, be careful of those first couple of stops, as the car won't want to until the pads heat up a bit....

It wouldn't bother me but like Dave "Coochas" said the dust can be a bit corrosive.

surprised to see so many people still using 97's....are 01's and 06's not available in your fitments?

imo, 01's and 06's are much better compounds...

Using 97s on my stock SC rotors/calipers for a while now (TT only, no Race). Zero complaints, all praise. But no reason why I wouldn't want the new compound when it's time. Can you share what you like better over the 97s? Thanks!

Edward
