BTW, talking about meaning of test times, now at Barcelona they actually mean something, once the tests are concluded, we'll have a pretty good idea of who's fast and who's not (OK, we already know Lotus is damn slow but the rest).
Of course there are still those who are sandbagging a bit and they'll have new parts at 1st race but still, now we're starting to see something.

It's interesting to ponder the psychology of testing. It's pretty obvious that sometimes a team that needs funding will want to post (artificially) quick laps to help draw sponsors... But then look at Brawn last year...

That may have been the exception that proves the rule though. I would think if I were a team manager sitting on a really stonkin' car that I would want to sandbag a bit to keep the level of scrutiny lower, and to unleash a real surprise at race 1 which would go further towards demoralizing the competition.

And then you have individual drivers and their egos and the resulting temptation to lay down a lap.

The Hulk was fastest today... It would be a treat to see Williams win races this season.

 

This is my humble opinion as to the order of the teams as they go into the first race. Also I included breaks where I think we will see the teams compete.

With a fast chassis/motor combo, certain teams can afford to test bits and pieces and setup to see how that stacks up against the computer simulations/estimations.

It'd be cool to watch 3-4 teams that can dice for the front for the pack.

 

I think your ranking is good Justin. Ferrari does seem to be the best looking at their long run consistency. Fuel mileage seems to be the only negative murmuring.

Red Bull is fast, no question, but they have not been doing much reliability running compared to some of the others it seems. That seemed to be one of their bugaboos last year.

With testing one day from over... I am going to make my pick: I think Alonso is going to do it in the Ferrari this year. He is a complete driver and with so many solid teams with good driver pairings, I think this season is going to favour a reliable car with a fast driver who makes very few mistakes. I see that as Alonso.

Although I pick Alonso to win, I my sentimental choice is Vettel.
